Long wear lip colour for wedding... Any recommendations?

I'm getting married in July and we're going for a vintage theme. I'm going for a classic 40's / 50's look with my look for the day. BUT I don't do so well with lipstick. If I can feel it on my lips I can't help but lick it off. Ordinary lipsticks last no more than 10 mins on me anyway with eating, drinking and linking!

I look good in a classic red lipstick and really want it for my wedding day. But I just can't find anything that really lasts.

Can anyone make any recommendations for a really good long-wear lip colour?

I don't care about the price, or whether it's a lipstick / lipstain... I just need it to last!

TIA

I bought Max Factor Lipfinity following a recommendation and am very pleased with how it lasts for several hours. About £10.

Mac's retro matte lipsticks are very good and last very well. Applying a few thinner layers with a brush and blotting instead of just one layer from the bullet will make it last longer too.

Besame. Does. Not. Shift. I get mine here

Maybelline superstay 24 hour colour in cherry pie. Lasts ages I promise.

I tried that maybelline one, and it started off very promising, but once it actually started to come off it was awful - it didn't fade, it sort of peeled off like paint? Maybe I did it wrong?

Bourjois do a 'retro matte' range now, which come in sort of lip gloss style tubes, but go on very matte and are almost a cross between a lipstick and a stain and last well.

But ultimately i agree with the poster above who suggested the mac lipstick. Ruby Woo or similar is amazing but you have to get the application right - lisa Eldridge has a great video on this if you look her up on YouTube (sorry, I don't have time to link right now). But basically

Put a tiny bit lip balm on while you do the rest of your face
Fill in your whole lips with red lip liner
Use a brush to apply the lipstick and really work it into the lips, blot and the repeat a few times
Finish with an application straight out of the bullet
I also find just putting a teeny amount of lip balm on over the top stops it from being too dry but still largel keeps the matte effect.

This method has worked for me really well at weddings etc and then you can jus refresh as needed, but it doesn't fully come off and you don't get the dreaded 'ring' round the outside of your mouth either.

I got a Barry M lippy recently - stayed on all night without having to reapply. Really pleased with it, and it wasn't expensive either.

I use Mac lip primer when I go out. Helps it stay in place and doesn't make matte red shiny.
I have heard good things about Too Faced Lip Insurance also.

Mac Ruby Woo or Russian Red, amazing and lasts for hours.

TisILeclerc · 19/05/2015 23:27

No 7 stay perfect is my favourite. They do a lovely red that works beautifully with my retro stuff.

Stays put all night no matter what I eat or drink. The only thing it moves for is snogging Grin

Another vote for 24h maybelline one. I have to reapply the balm a few times to get the colour to stick and I make sure my lips are moisturiser before I put it on too. Sticks for a whole long evening out. Its not expensive and often in deals in superdrug and boots. It comes in lots of different shades and the bright red is lovely.

Max factor lipfinity.

Whatever you go for (MAC ruby woo is the undisputed, ultimate vintage red) do wear it often before the big day to help you get used to it.

The Besame looks gorgeous. Even as a non lipstick wearer , I'd be whipping that out of my bag at every opportumity .

Talisin · 28/05/2015 19:23

Oh it is gorgeous, both the colour(s) and the packaging. I have two at the moment and just waiting till pay day until I add a third.
