Hair - help me decide what hairstyle

i am 37 and i am useless at styling my hair. I have tried a full fringe in the past and this has mostly grown out now. It didnt suit me and found it a nuisance to style. I havent been to the hairdrssers since late last year and i am desperately overdue but i don't know what style to ask for.

I have a fairly round face and dark brown hair just past the shoulder.. I don't really suit hair too much shorter than this. Hair is naturally wavy but lacks volume on top, and often looks bottom heavy. I really like the colour so dont want highlights etc. it just kind of hangs down. I think i need some shorter layers round the front and am open to having a side fringe. However when i have had side fringe in the past it looked a bit weird on me as only short on the one side iyswim. I think i need a few shorter layers on both sides of the face. Is this something that is done, or would it be weird? I want something that i can tie back when needed and is not too modern or 'out there'

I think you should work with the wave. Have you tried salt spray?

Ask them to cut your hair in a centre parting.

I have exactly the same hair you describe and face shape. I have tried many hairstyles including a fringe (even my toddler wouldn't walk with me it looked so horrendous). The only thing I've found to work is working with the wave as mentioned above. Just waving slightly using a wand or putting in a sock bun before bed and running some serum through gives a bit of volume and the serum stops the frizz. I rub a tiny bit of XXL volume dry shampoo into the roots to give volume so I don't get a flat top and big bottom lol. ifonlyitworkedwithaflattopandbigbottomelsewhere--

I don't tend to go for a full on curl as this is too much volume, just a messy wave.

Thanks for the suggestions! I do like wavy hair so happy to work with the wave, but my hair tends to do its own thing, and goes very dry and frizzy looking when wavy... Either that or i end up overloading it with product and just looks a mess. Is there anything out there that would work, maybe the lob length or slightly longer but with layers around the face (preferably flicked back off the face)?

I'm wondering if you'd suit my hairstyle.... I have shorter layers right up the back to the crown and they give lots of lift no curl. The layers around the face are chin length so they can be tucked behind my ear.

What this style does is allow ease of wear plus punk rock, with the shorter layers. Think Russel Brand. It's easy to maintain, a little bit of product keeps it happy and people often comment. The man in difference from what you're describing is that, if you start at the chin, the lines go upwards towards the crown, where layers framing the face go downwards towards the chin.

Have you tried frizz ease? I use that when wet and on top of that, a cream based product to help support the curl. Then I leave it to dry for a bit to allow the curls to form, then I flip head up and diffuse. There we have the massive head of hair and onto that goes a firmer wax type product. And that's it. Wear for four days, maybe a bit of Argan oil if looking too slept on...

Thank you! My hair is more of a loose wave than a curl. So can be straightened, but curls dont stay in. Have tried frizz ease which does help, but still have loose flyaways/ baby hair which refuses to be tamed.

Your hair sounds fab but would not suit me. I'm more of a classic/ boring style of person.

If i was to embrace the waves, how do i use salt spray? Any particular brands better/ easier to use?
