i'm going to a country house type place for a celebratory lunch. lots of family will be there (some of whom i haven't seen for years). i live in jeans and boots/converse but would like to make an effort to look nice.

please help!!

i've been looking for a dress but everything seems to be really strappy and short or too 'wedding guest-y'.

Hmmmmm.......I may have added 17 dresses to my house of fraser bag. I think I need to bite the bullet and go try a few hundreds on.

Go and do it! Have you got a good, honest (yet tactful) friend you could take with you?

RedRosie · 21/05/2015 15:24

Go Poppy!

Or you could go and buy something totally sparkly, like me!

poppym12 · 22/05/2015 08:16

no, sadly not pants. my closest friends live over 2 hours away.

i'm struggling with anything patterned, never mind sparkly rosie!!

So, as I see it, you have three options:

  • go and try on as many dresses as catch your eye and pick the one you like the most

  • go and try on as many dresses as catch your eye, select your top three, take pics, post them on here and we'll all vote for the best

  • have you thought about booking an appointment with a personal shopper? I've not tried it but quite a few people on here seem to recommend it.

This is your mission should you choose to accept it. Good Luck Poppy

thanks pants. mission accepted (apart from photos).

i decided i felt brave enough to try one of those personal shopper things at house of fraser but apparently, that service isn't offered at the one nearest to me (the next closest is quite a way away). pffft. i'm wondering if they'd have many for me to choose from in-store too if its a relatively small branch.

i could order loads and have them delivered to store to try on i suppose but then i'm still not getting a second opinion (and my bank may shout).

Have you checked out the obvious suspects for such occasions, ie Hobbs, LKB, Whistles? (Sorry if you have and I missed it).

poppym12 · 22/05/2015 19:11

i have looked poly but ruled out hobbs and lkb as they're not really me (and priced higher than i would like to pay).
