Wedding dress reassurance needed (photos)

I went for my wedding dress fitting on Saturday...and had a bit of a meltdown because the dress has some odd looking lumps that I never noticed. I'm now thinking about buying another dress (though really can't afford it). What do you think? Does it look ok? As an FYI this isn't a picture of me!

Or should I just think that I only have one wedding and to get another dress?

You're right pictish. In the black and white picture the belt looks the same color as the models skin. I didn't realise it was a belt. I think the dress is nicer without it.

pictish · 18/05/2015 09:32

It did to me. I worked it out quite quickly. No harm was done.

Sizzlesthedog · 18/05/2015 09:33

It's beautiful! The model in the first pic doesn't fit the dress, it's way too small for her bust.

You look beautiful in your dress. I'd say it's normal at 8 weeks to go to hate everything about your wedding. A week before my wedding my dress didn't fit, it fell off me. I was about to get another dress, but a very skilled seamstress cut it up and re made it to fit. It's the stress for the wedding.

Have a lovely day. Flowers

Weebirdie · 18/05/2015 09:34

To me its obvious its a belt but maybe its also because I knew it was a belt because of when I was dress shopping with my daughter.

Penguinsaresmall · 18/05/2015 09:42

I also don't like the dress on the model but think it looks lovely on you and is a perfect fit. It looks way too tight and booby common in the first pic but v classy on you.

Stop panicking!

pictish · 18/05/2015 09:44

Weebirdie that must be it. I can only apologise for getting it so wrong. Wink

Weebirdie · 18/05/2015 09:47

No problem.

Any dress that shape usually comes with an optional belt in various colours and once you're in the dress they then offer you a belt as an accessory.

My daughter had tartan one made for in the evening and it looked lovely.

PrimalLass · 18/05/2015 09:48

You look lovely. The dress just needs steamed.

rubybleu · 18/05/2015 09:49

It looks lovely on you, it just needs some alterations and with 8 weeks to go, you have plenty of time to make it perfect.

I'm going to stick my neck out and say that ideally it should be tight fitting once altered and you shouldn't leave space for movement. As your dress is lace, it will stretch throughout the day as you stand or sit (like all clothes) and the critical bit is that it looks perfect for your ceremony and photos. I was at a wedding over the weekend where her dress was perfect for the ceremony but was noticeably stretching by the time we'd sat down for dinner, it would have looked much worse if she had left room in the alterations.

burnishedsilver · 18/05/2015 09:52

Kudos weebirdie. I shall chastise myself accordingly for my mistake.

iwantgin · 18/05/2015 09:56

I have just come back to this and see that you hve posted a pic of you wearing the dress. It looks absolutely lovely on you. Much, much better than the first picture. It is too tight on the first model - on your body it has room for you to move, sit down and stuff.

I can see how you think there are 'bumps' but the fabric will be quite stiff, and as said upthread could be steamed so it sits better ?

Beautiful dress - and it really suits you.

FWIW I had a major dress wobble about 2 months before my wedding - and rushed out and bought a second one - in a totally different style to my first choice. I returned it after retrying on my first choice and realised that I had been right all along. A lot of brides have dress wobbles. :)

butterfly86 · 18/05/2015 10:18

Your dress is beautiful op it's very similar to my wedding dress, I think it needs taking in slightly it's loose material that is creating those bumps, alterations and a good steaming it will be perfect!

LtheWife · 18/05/2015 10:23

Ok, so I've found a photo of my dress on my phone. Before alterations and steaming it looked very much like yours, stiff, kind of lumpy and a bit too loose. This photo was taken after the ceremony right at the end of our photo session. By this point we'd walked over a mile in 37+ degree heat, climbed over a fence, walked through a hilly wooded area and I'd just been sitting down in the shade, so it really wasn't looking it's best by this point (have you seen how creased DH is?). It was also a little too snug on the hips as I'd spent the week prior to the wedding eating two american sized three course meals a day. It looked perfect as I walked down the aisle I promise you!

LTheWife your dress looks lovely, but please tell me your DH didn't get married in trainers? Grin

MrsMarigold · 18/05/2015 10:27

Lovely you look beautiful. Good luck and congratulations. xx

5madthings · 18/05/2015 10:27

You look gorgeous, much better than the model wearing the dresS in the first pic you posted.

It's fine, but I understand your nerves as I am getting married on 28th, my dress should arrive any day and I am soooo nervous it won't look like I imagine it should!

LtheWife · 18/05/2015 10:35

He most certainly did Penguins! It was a very small, relaxed and informal affair. I'd have worn converse too if I could have got away with it!

Weebirdie · 18/05/2015 11:00

Kudos weebirdie. I shall chastise myself accordingly for my mistake.

If you must. But I can't recall replying to you until now.

AnonyMusty · 18/05/2015 11:12

You look beautiful. I think it looks like you've room for movement in the fact that it's not laying completely flat and taught across your thighs. This is private a good thing as you'll need to move, laugh, dance and even go to the loo! You'll look absolutely beautiful. It's so nerve wracking, the lead up to Your Big Day. My big tip is to focus less on the dress (as we have all agreed that you look beautiful in it) and go and buy a second pair of shoes (not necessarily expensive). These should be easy to was and dance in. Lower than your current pair (if they're higher than you're used to wearing for long periods of time: all day and evening). Shoe shopping is a GOOD focus now. Enjoy!

AnonyMusty · 18/05/2015 11:15

Take the second pair with you. Keep receipt. If your feet are achey on the day/ in the evening, swap shoes. If not, get a refund and keep them in a box. Assign two friends to be your discreet 'anti-shine blotters' and equip them with blotting powder (not necessarily expensive ones). Focus on small and less important stuff now. Xxx

polyhymnia · 18/05/2015 11:16

I think it looks fine on you - no peculiar bumps and agree it shouldn't be skin tight.

I don't personally like the strapless bare shoulder style (not because I'm prudish, just don't) but it's certainly a classic now, presumably you do like it and it definitely looks best on someone like you who doesn't have big boobs and have to worry about them being too visible (as I think they were in the first pic, on the model).

CityDweller · 18/05/2015 11:23

I think you look beautiful. The dress isn't my taste at all, but it really suits and flatters you. Any creases will fall out with steaming or just hanging it up for a few weeks.

Losingmyreligion · 18/05/2015 11:31

To me it looks as if there's less fabric in the lining than on top, causing the top layer to bunch up. Otherwise, it's beautiful and looks stunning on you.

Weebirdie · 18/05/2015 11:35

Losing - I agree. The lining and the outer layer are not matching up.

Jewels234 · 18/05/2015 12:20

Oh my goodness Lthewife you look amazing. Who was the designer?
