Wedding dress reassurance needed (photos)

I went for my wedding dress fitting on Saturday...and had a bit of a meltdown because the dress has some odd looking lumps that I never noticed. I'm now thinking about buying another dress (though really can't afford it). What do you think? Does it look ok? As an FYI this isn't a picture of me!

Or should I just think that I only have one wedding and to get another dress?

P.s. No thigh lumps seen

Fluffycloudland77 · 18/05/2015 08:46

It's fine, don't forget you have to sit down in it so they have to accommodate that.

You could make it skin tight but it would split when you sat down.

Mine fitted like that and everyone still talks about my dress 5 years later.

LtheWife · 18/05/2015 08:47

I had a similar dress, I also had a similar meltdown! At my first fitting I was sure the dress I got was constructed differently to the sample and it had lumps and bumps where the sample I'd tried was smooth. I remember being so upset that with only weeks to go I wouldn't be able to get another's dress in time. The alterations made a huge difference but it still didn't look quite right. Then it clicked, the sample had been cleaned and steamed to keep it looking good in the shop whereas my dress was still a bit too crisp and new. Steaming it a few times really softened the fabric and made it hang so much better.

It's a gorgeous dress, once the alterations are done you'll be much happier and I'm sure you'll look amazing!

EducateTogetheralumnus · 18/05/2015 08:48

What lumps?! You look beautiful. Enjoy your day!

pictish · 18/05/2015 08:48

Seriously you're going to look amazing. You will glide past while people coo at how slim and graceful you are. The dress really works and fits well. Have a wonderful day. Smile x

Patilla · 18/05/2015 08:51

I think the dress looks beautiful on you. Bear in mind as well that, as someone else has said, you need room
To manoeuvre or you'll be one uncomfortable bride. And you won't be standing in one position all day but moving around sitting standing chatting drinking and dancing and having an totally awesome day.
And you need a dress that has room to do that.
I'd wager that after the ceremony you won't even be giving it a thought BUT you might do as you are getting ready and walking up the aisle. So if you're really unhappy then? even with room to manoeuvre, it's the wrong dress.
Can you make an afternoon to just go somewhere else on your own and try a few other dresses? But on your own as it's a matter of settling your own mind?
I found my dress really early on but went to a handful of other shops and tried a few on and that made me realise it was the right one. You don't have to tell the shops that you've already bought a dress.

Patilla · 18/05/2015 08:53

But I do echo other posters saying it's a fab dress on you and looks like it fits well and is awesome.

WyrdByrd · 18/05/2015 08:53

You look fabulous - like MD said, much, much better than the model in the first pic Smile.

The only little wibbles on the dress are just down to the fabric - you will get that with any dress, particularly slim fitting ones, and actually the fact it's lacy makes them much less noticeable imho.

Have a brilliant wedding day Thanks.

burnishedsilver · 18/05/2015 08:54

You're over thinking it. You look gorgeous (much nicer than the person in the first picture with the two piece). Weddings are so stressful.

Weebirdie · 18/05/2015 08:57

There is a lump or bump of fabric above the Op's left knee. Its almost as if there is too much material on that side and its having to bunch up because there is no place else for it to go.

I would take it to a seamstress and ask her to check the length from the waist down to where it starts to flare.

Its a beautiful dress but its not sitting correctly and at 8 weeks before the big day there is still time to sort it.

pictish · 18/05/2015 08:57

It's not a two piece...it's a bow. I thought the same when I looked at it first you see? It does look like a skin gap.

Bakeoffcake · 18/05/2015 08:58

You look amazing in the dress and the dress looks amazing on you! Smile
Also as Pictish said, if it was skin tight you wouldn't be able to move.

Have a wonderful day.Flowers

5hell · 18/05/2015 09:00

it's a lovely dress and you look lovely in it; the lace is so pretty!

there are one or two wrinkles, you're right, but i'm sure that after final fitting and pressing/steaming it will hang much smoother and be just as you envisioned. tell you dress shop/fitter your worries and I'm sure they can reassure you too :)

have faith, we all have these mini-crises during wedding planning. you will have an amazing day and afterwards will be wondering what you were worrying about Grin

stevienickstophat · 18/05/2015 09:00

You look absolutely beautiful.

notquitegrownup2 · 18/05/2015 09:01

It's gorgeous. I can see why you would think 'lumps' - but they aren't - there needs to be a little movement as others have said, so that you can move and enjoy your day. Even without a fitting, I wouldn't look at that dress and say anything other than "Wow". Just pull down a little on the sides and slide your hand over your tummy, just before the photos, to have it at its very smoothest, then enjoy a) looking stunning and b) being able to move/breathe to enjoy the rest of your day.

Are you having a veil too?

BreeVDKamp · 18/05/2015 09:03

Ooh it's lovely although I'd definitely have a belt! Or sash. But a glitzy belt would be my choice. And a necklace but obvs that pic was just to show us the dress, not the whole look.

Lovely OP, I'm jealous! I should have gone for a dress like that, I impulse bought one that made me look like a child, had a major panic attack, then swapped it for another dress of similar price etc as had already paid so I nicked up my dress shopping totally! So I know how you feel.

BreeVDKamp · 18/05/2015 09:03

*mucked

Weebirdie · 18/05/2015 09:05

Ive no idea about a skin gap. I cant see one.

dingit · 18/05/2015 09:06

It's lovely. And I'm a complete stranger, so nothing to gain by saying it just to make you feel better!

WeAreEternal · 18/05/2015 09:13

It looks much better on you than it does the woman in the first picture.

I would keep that dress, it's beautiful and looks as though it fits well, and you'll still have a final fitting to get it perfect.

JessieMcJessie · 18/05/2015 09:15

It looks really pretty on you, much better than the pic with the model. I agree with the others that a belt would bring it all together nicely though I'd go for plain satin with a nice buckle rather than full-on glittery. I had one like that on my dress, which was a "modified fishtail" so similar to yours but less flarey at the bottom. Pic attached (not me!)

The "lumps" just look like room for movement to me but as others have said the dressmaker has plenty of time to smooth them out a bit.

JessieMcJessie · 18/05/2015 09:16

Oh and don't go for a huge mantilla veil like the model in the picture - too much!

pictish · 18/05/2015 09:17

Weebirdie the photo in the OP. The black and white one. At first glance the dress looks like a corset and skirt with a strip of skin visible between. A two piece. Burnishedsliver thought the same.
On closer inspection it's a little bow.

VolumniaDedlock · 18/05/2015 09:19

much better on you than on the model!

Weebirdie · 18/05/2015 09:24

Weebirdie the photo in the OP. The black and white one. At first glance the dress looks like a corset and skirt with a strip of skin visible between. A two piece

It doesnt look that way to me.
