Evening wedding in Spain in July

As the title, looking for something to wear to an evening wedding (ceremony at church 6.30pm, reception at posh hotel 7.45pm, meal 10pm) in Spain in July. I am a 12-14 (hoping to be more towards the 12 end by July!), 5' 5", apple shape and mousey blonde hair and am pale. My MIL told me maxi dresses are in, but my legs are probably one of my better features whereas would rather hide tummy and/or arms. I have been breastfeeding my 1yo but am cutting down now and am not sure whether I will be totally finished or not by then (she is coming to the wedding). Budget probably up to £80. Any ideas gratefully received!

Maxi dresses are the thing for Spanish weddings - think bridesmaid and you're pretty much there. There is no OTT. Make sure you have something to cover your shoulders in church and have water and a fan with you - my best friend got married in Toledo in August and I nearly collapsed in the heat.

And enjoy! Spaniards party hard and their weddings are awesome Grin

You will be up all night until dawn. Make sure you're comfortable. The Spanish wedding I went to: anything goes, dress-wise, from maxi to midi. It's more the footwear you need to worry about to get through all those hours of dancing.

Agree with the fan suggestion, it may still be hot even for an evening ceremony. I found wraparound dresses good for breastfeeding at weddings. Hope you have a great time!

Thank you for the suggestions! We were in two minds about whether to attend, what with 1yo DD but have decided to go with the flow so hopefully it will all go well and we'll have a good time! I suppose I will start having a look at maxi dresses and see if there is anything I like! Thanks for the fab suggestion. Those who've been to Spanish weddings- any suggestions on what the men wear (for DH), a suit seems unfeasible in the heat!

the AC will be very high inside the venue, so men do wear suits. I am going to a wedding in Spain as well in July and I have been informed by my family that evening wedding in Spain equals long dresses only. Nothing is OTT. I am waiting for the sales and keeping an eye on TKMaxx

Yes, there are some silly (as far as I'm concerned) rules for Spanish weddings. If it's in the evening long dresses are expected (short dresses if it's an afternoon do). And Spanish women like to have all their accessories matching. Definitely suits for blokes.

The men are pretty much expected to tough it out. DH had a vest on under his shirt - I thought this was crackers but he insists it's the best way to stay cool in hot weather, and he copes happily in ridiculous temperatures so I defer to him.

At the one I went to I had to go to bed at about 3am - got up for breakfast at about 8am (DD is no respecter of lie-ins) and people were just about thinking of heading to bed.

YY Spanish really go all out as guests for weddings - nearly all the guests will go to have their hair blow dried and"done" before the wedding, big cash gifts are the norm (but you will most likely be treated to a big open bar etc) - women normally dress like bridesmaids at uk weddings - so yy to maxi dresses, and matching accessories. Definitely a jacket or bolero for the ceremony.

men should wear a vest under their shirts to soak up the sweat otherwise there will be a pig patch! Keep jacket on. Put up with it! Definitely find a fan !

Have a look at the tulle skirts thread. I reckon one of the maxi ones on ASOS would be stunning.

JuniorMint · 18/05/2015 20:42

All great thanks, popped into TKmaxx today and am browsing ASOS now! Any thoughts on colours/patterns?
