Mid length hair - layers. Yay or nay?

I have straight fine hair around shoulder length. It has no layers at the moment, but I think it's a bit harsh and doesn't really suit me.

I want to grow my hair longer and am thinking of getting some layers chopped into it this afternoon to soften the look, with a bit of a longish soft fringe.

I'm 43. Is this going to make me look dowdy?

I'm growing my hair, it's currently just passed my shoulders with a side fringe and I always have long layers cut in. Prefer my hair with layers (only long layers though)to give it more movement and a bit more oomph.

Yay

Excellent. County that sounds like what will suit me. I don't want short layers but I am just throwing it up in a pony tail at the moment as it's hanging heavily and makes me look grumpy.

Soft layers at the front look good. I struggled to find a hairdresser who could do this well though, which was a surprise. Some did it "choppy" which was ok but not what I wanted.

From my experience just make sure the layers are long enough to tie back for when you do tie your hair up.
Or maybe it's just me as I found that really annoying !

Ah good point always.
