First time wax!

TeeManyMartoonis · 16/05/2015 00:12

I am getting a Brazilian wax done on Tuesday for the first time. I asked if there was anything I needed to do beforehand and she said to trim it if it is too long

But what is 'too long'?

Any other tips? It is going to hurt isn't it? Sad

if the therapist uses hard/hot wax such as Lycon, it'll be fine. It'll sting a bit when it is removed, but as a hard wax clings only to the hair and not the skin, discomfort is reduced.

personally, I'd avoid like the plague if the therapist uses warm wax (with strips) as I ended up bruised and swollen after an intimate wax with warm wax...
I do know a few people that do get it done with warm wax and they don't mind, it does hurt more though.

don't panic about getting trimmed, it's just to make it easier to wax, you need at least 4 weeks worth of hair so that you've gone through one full hair growth cycle, but getting trimmed is normal :) don't worry about it, you'll be great Smile

I had mine done for the first time this week
I have had bikini done before and it was awful. I tried it myself and bruised. The second time I went to a salon and it hurt to hell leaving bloody dots where the hair had been ripped out. Not nice.
This time my friend who is a beautician did it and I went the whole hog (save landing strip Wink ) she did an amazing job. It was warm wax but it didn't hurt too much (a few yelps were emitted). I didn't trim as I have been shaving so had around two weeks growth. It was a bit tender for a day and a half. My fanjo feels lovely now!

Definitely find someone who uses Lycon rather than strip wax for a Brazilian!

NoArmaniNoPunani · 16/05/2015 07:06

Definitely go for hot wax. I've been having mine done for 10 years now, the more you do it the easier it gets.

Ouchbloodyouch · 16/05/2015 07:08

Oh and the arse area was remarkably painless! Who knew? Wink

TeeManyMartoonis · 17/05/2015 09:02

Thanks ladies. Just checked and it is hot wax - phew!

Wish me luck wibble

let us know how you find it! Grin

ememem84 · 17/05/2015 11:20

good luck. I'm still yet to brave the brazillian.... keep thinking about it but always chicken out at the last minute...!

ememem84 · 17/05/2015 11:20

would also suggest aloe vera gel for a few days afterwards - to sooth the redness

Nettletheelf · 17/05/2015 13:33

You don't need to trim that much. Half an inch should do it. It hurts more if the hairs are longer.

I'd recommend a couple of painkillers an hour beforehand, which helps. Yes, it will hurt. One side always hurts more, for some reason! If it's any consolation, the first time always hurts most. It gets easier with time, since the roots become weaker.

Also, get your hands on some Tend Skin or Ingrow Go. The 'area' can become inflamed after waxing, and this stuff makes it better. It's a salicylic acid solution, I think, which you apply with cotton wool, and it gets rid of waxing rashes/itchiness brilliantly. You can also get lotions that claim to slow down regrowth.

On the recommendation of a beautician, I use body scrub after the second day to prevent ingrown hairs.

Why do we do this to ourselves? Good luck.

peacoat · 17/05/2015 13:37

I'd second the painkillers beforehand. I've been known to have a glass of wine AND painkillers beforehand, which helped.

Nettletheelf · 17/05/2015 14:40

I'm having wine next time. Why didn't I think of that?

RavioliOnToast · 17/05/2015 19:58

I also recommend 'a bit of rough' its a cloth designed to prevent ingrown hairs :) its fab

HennaFlare · 17/05/2015 21:47

Definitely wine and painkillers. I've done my own on that combo. Although, it was a sort of wonky landing strip...

SadieSue29 · 18/05/2015 06:34

Going against the gain here I found the hard wax to be much more painful, felt like I could feel even hair being pulled out and it took such a long time. I find the front bit hurts the most, underneath and butt area not painful at all. Good luck Smile

TeeManyMartoonis · 19/05/2015 21:23

Thanks everyone!

Well I survived! At home now with tea (and Galaxy - never mind).

It hurt. However I am almost already forgetting that. The pain was so quickly over that it was bearable. Just had to remind myself to relax and breathe deeply! Definitely some bits worse than others. I just seemed to tense up everytime she went for it which I know didn't help.

She was VERY quick - 15 mins for the whole thing which helped with making it bearable. Bit concerned that she a) did not wear gloves and b) seemed to double-dip which I thought was a no-no?

I have no aloe vera gel with me (thought I did - have run out) so will just have to make do with a cold flannel if I need it.

Will exfoliate in a couple of days.

Thank you so much guys!

Tee

hmm, double dip with an intimate wax, and no gloves? I'd avoid from now on...
