What eyeliner instead of black?

Hi
I've worn black eyeliner for ever and although I still love it, I wonder if something softer would suit me better? I'm quite pale skinned with pale blue eyes. I also wear black mascara and sometimes feel like I look a bit washed out and maybe this isnt helping.
Any ideas what colours I could try instead?
Thanks

I wear either brown or green but I have brown eyes. How about a darkish grey? Softer than a black...

Itsalldramarama · 14/05/2015 20:19

How about a steel grey ? I love black but looks a bit harsh now ! I got a grey one from Avon think it's called smoke that looks really good

OttiliaVonBCup · 14/05/2015 20:22

I love navy blue and violet, but it might not work for you.

TapDancingPimp · 14/05/2015 20:25

Huge fan of brown eyeliner here. I'm blonde with fair skin (although I do use bronzer).

I think it gives a lovely soft yet smoky look.

thenightsky · 14/05/2015 20:26

I wear a bourjour one in grey, with brown mascara. Seems to bring out the blue in my eyes and is much less harsh than black.

StepfauxWife · 14/05/2015 20:26

I wear a nars steely grey (had it years so can't quite see the shade!) and it's lovely.

VarsityQueen · 14/05/2015 20:27

I have similar colouring and I just got the gel liner in Violet from Bobbi Brown which is flattering

TrulyTurtles · 14/05/2015 20:27

I've got a grape one (Clinique) that's lovely, I've got similar colouring.

TulipOHare · 14/05/2015 20:30

I loooooove navy blues and midnight blues, but I have different colouring (dark hair / eyes, lovey skin)

Used to have a jungle green that looked great too

TulipOHare · 14/05/2015 20:31

Erm, olivey skin, not lovey skin Hmm

cashmerecardigans · 14/05/2015 20:46

Fab, thanks. I love the sound of grey or violet. I've heard great things about the Bobbi Brown gel one so may try that. Will check out those first. What mascara would be best with those?

I use No7 blackest purple. Lighter than black but still dark if that makes sense!

Corygal · 14/05/2015 21:54

I use a smudgy dark violet which is very good on eyes. Maybelline, lovely and cheap but lasts.

Corygal · 14/05/2015 21:55

blue eyes Grin

daftyburd · 14/05/2015 21:56

I use black honey for eyes by Clinique and a plum Laura Mercier cake mascara. I also use brown during the day. Any old brown pencil will do. I'm a different colouring. Natural hair colour is dark brown and hazel eyes.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 14/05/2015 22:18

Ooh like the sound of No7 "Blackest Purple"
I splashed out on a Benefit Bad Gal Plum.......it smudged round my eyes, not in a foxy mauve eyeliner way but a cerise eyed vamirey way Shock

For liners, I love the Barry M metallics pencils in Violet , grey/silver, navy. I have hazelly brown eyes.

I bought the Rimmel Kate Moss liner , in Emerald (in a pot) but the brush is too clumsy and the Real Technique silicone liner brush outwits me .

Gem124 · 14/05/2015 22:34

I would def recommend blackest purple. Only been using it for a couple of well & lots of people have commented that my eyes are looking brighter :-) I think it was only about £6.50 and they often do £3 off vouchers so could even get a few colours.

Saurus72 · 14/05/2015 22:47

On a related(ish) topic, can anyone please recommend a dark navy mascara please? TIA

IfYoureHappyAndYouKnowIt · 14/05/2015 23:31

Blue or grey. LM tight liner. Or their gel liner.

Petal02 · 15/05/2015 08:23

Another vote for grey eyeliner. Although I too like the sound of blackest purple! Any sort of brown shade near my eyes makes me look tired, which is a pain.

SuperFlyHigh · 15/05/2015 10:33

Grey or plum or purple. Navy can also look nice. Have a play with Bobbi Brown/Clinique etc then decide if you want for day/night or both.

The Clinique pencil ones are remarkably easy colours to wear for day the Bobbi Brown violet I think it is etc are easier for night. Urban Decay also do some amazing colours with glitter/shine for evening.

SuperFlyHigh · 15/05/2015 10:34

Saurus - Chanel used to do one. Dior do a faux cils in navy too. it's one of those buggers that used to be popular then went out of fashion.

Dumpylump · 15/05/2015 18:39

I love Urban Decay eyeliner pencils, they do dozens of colours, from black, navy, many shades of brown...right through to a whole rainbow of brights.
My favourite mascara is Chanel le Volume. Black for nights out, and prune for everyday - it's a great plummy colour.

Dumpylump · 15/05/2015 18:41

Saurus the Chanel mascara comes in a blue too, although I wouldn't say it was a dark navy, more of a dark royal blue - but not 80s electric blue!
