HELP! Someone help me find an outfit for a wedding/christening for an extremely particular 9 yr old DD before I eat my own foot...

DD (9) is very difficult to buy clothes for and I need a complete outfit (incl. shoes) for a wedding and christening. What she won't wear is listed below:

Pink/Purple
Sparkles or glittery or shiny
Flowers/fairies/girl prints
Skirts
Dresses
Short shorts
Anything with fussy stitching i.e. pleats or even a cap sleeve
Weird hemlines or cuts
Lace
Satin/Silky stuff
Gold/silver
Shoes relating to any of the above

I'm tired of looking so any help would be much appreciated Grin

Shock sunshine please don't tell me that! I genuinely have no problem with her not embracing frills etc, she is what she is but it is the depths of fussiness that drive me bokers. Birkiekid that jacket is perfect, plain but appropriate - what could she team that with?

2boys - she lives in second hand boden jersey bottoms, hoodies and polo shirts :)

shiloh jolie pitt often wears suits and looks great. How about a pale coloured linen suit or suit trousers with a shirt and waistcoat? You can get this (made for boys) at Next, John Lewis etc.

I think hareem pants would go with a jacket, then you just need a plain vest top or tee to go under the jacket.

I was very fussy about clothes as a child too - your list would be about right, but I also couldn't tolerate anything touching my neck.

How cool is Shiloh, my DD would really identify with her. They have the same hairstyle :) Such a shame retailers don't make little suits for girls, adult ladies wear suits so...

My dd wear hareem style trousers with it and I recently bought her a plain shell top for a dressy occasion.

Hareem pants

She has white vest tops, she could be persuaded into wearing a scarf thing. Hadnt considered hareem pants, will sound her out about those.

What about footwear?

I was thinking Shiloh too, I think she looks fabulous! How about something like this? Can you tweak this suit at all to make it work? www.marksandspencer.com/shop-this-outfit-older-boys-/p/ds3ef5af740989e675c98153999cf34820?associationType=outfit&carousel=OutfitCarousel_PIM&mfPartNumber=T878758G

Your dd might not like the pants as they have pink and flowers but it will give you an idea.

It might be easer if you tell us what she likes. What are her favourite clothes?

Would desert boots be too hot in the summer?

2boys that's interesting I've always wondered if DD was mildly on the spectrum. She is hypersensitive to smells and tastes and textures.

She sounds very like my dd who has Sensory Processing Disorder. We've had issues for years with clothes but are finally coming to an understanding of what she can and can't tolerate.

No jeans or anything stiff, no belts, nothing shiny or hairy. Not too tight or too baggy.

Underwear is still a major problem. She doesn't ever wear socks. She prefers old, worn clothes and gets very attached to certain items.

Converse would probably work. I think a 9 yr old could get away with them.

Tbh, from the outset, sensory processing disorder sprung to mind. My niece has the same issues with clothing and also with food textures and smells. She has been diagnosed with spd. It might be worth investigating because if you know why she does the things she does then you can work with it instead of battling against it.

Yes textures smells and tastes are all an issue with her but as she becomes older its improved a lot

Hmm now I feel a bit sad and upset that I might have missed something important :( DD also gets fixated on certain clothes and has major meltdowns over appearance related issues - disproportionately so.

YY to converses, she loves those.
