"Going out out tops" = clueless

I have a baby, I have no idea what's in fashion and nothing to wear for 'going out out'. I've bought the Gap cropped trousers in black to wear...

Going to restaurant with friends, colleague's retirement party that sort of thing.

I'm both short and short waisted so things often too low cut. Roughly size 6/8 (in new vanity sizes) but boobs relatively big at the moment 32F ish and bit of a tummy but not too bad considering.

Any ideas?

I'm okay pickingo it smartish yet casual non iron work tops
then o wear the, as going out tops

jimmybim · 13/05/2015 23:04

mint velvet

tinkerbellvspredator · 14/05/2015 09:01

I'm the same Stealth specially the non iron...

Interesting Jimmy not something I would have picked out myself, which is a good thing! Bit expensive and not sure if it would show my midrift (though the zip would probably finish lower on me).

Can I heartily recommend you try a couple of the scoop-neck sleeveless tops that are all over at the mo - versatile and flattering, and look great with long necklaces. Personally I think this is a more modern look then the sequinned type going out out tops that I used to wear pre-baby. I have a lovely one from M&S that's a pink, orange and black print - sounds horrible but is actually nicely unusual and lovely on. I wear it slightly tucked in, with blue shorts, or jeans.

lurkingmurking · 14/05/2015 09:22

What about a blouse? I like the silhouette with skinny trousers and heels

lurkingmurking · 14/05/2015 09:23

Or this one might be better blue

tinkerbellvspredator · 14/05/2015 09:26

I like the color of the first one Flavia but think it would look boring with black trousers. The second is nice but too casual/daytime for me. Last one not sure about (not for that price anyway!), looks nice on the model practically leaning over to make it look asymmetrical.

What about this one, sort of thing i'd go for, boring? Have read mixed reviews of mint velvet on S&B before m.johnlewis.com/mt/www.johnlewis.com/mint-velvet-burnout-kimono-top/p1799196?navAction=jump#page_loaded

Oh, I like that. My aunt gave me some mint velvet tops and I found them a bit tight on the bust (I'm small with ff boobs) so I'd order the next size up too.

tinkerbellvspredator · 14/05/2015 09:35

Oo that's cheap Laquila and I could wear daytime too, not sure the color would be good on me though but will try it. I would also need a jacket unless it's really hot though.

I might get the blue one too Lurking. Again not 'my style', still stuck in the sequin top era in my head.

I really like the one you suggested tinker bell! I'm a similar shape to you (when not nine months pregnant!) and not very good at fashion but I'd go with something like this: www.frenchconnection.com/product/Woman+Collections+Sale/764ZF/Polly+Plains+Satin+Top.htm

TheEggityOddity · 14/05/2015 09:46

I like the river island kimono type things with a plain vest to allow for eating!

But if I were your size I would love that french connection top!

Laquila · 14/05/2015 09:47

I wear it with my black leather biker jacket or a black 80s-ish waterfall type jacket - this is a very mumsy thing to say but one of the reasons I like it is that it doesn't crease! I think I just aged twenty years...

tinkerbellvspredator · 14/05/2015 10:07

I think I'm too pale and my arms aren't toned enough for pale pink sleeveless, that one's not for me.

The kimono looks very x factor glamorous, tempted, but the model is 5ft10 so the back would probably be down to my ankles! I'll be able to go into river island tomorrow so will have a look.

Might look for a biker jacket too...

I shouldn't have posted this thread while on maternity pay should I?

Well I should be able to pick up the M&S top in store tomorrow but only size 10 in stock so will see. I'm going to have a look around for scoop neck tops, blouses and kimonos... and jackets.
