i was a size 12/14 for ever. until i became ill. now i am a size 16/18. i am working on changing this but my mobility is limited so i'm unable to exercise much and i have ME. its a slow process.

i thought about treating myself to some new clothes to try to make the best of how i am now but i'm stuck. should i be steering clear of my usual shops which may have size 16/18 but may not be very flattering? i've been looking at plus size websites but some of the clothes look so.....not me.

can anyone offer me any advice please?

Hello, ive ballooned due to illness to so feel your pain, but am currently size 22 so jealous!

What kind of shape are you, what are your good bits and what is your colouring? That will help to narrow things down! What kind of stuff do you like wearing when you are slimmer?

I too am a 16/18 having originally been a 10/12. Personally, I now wear dresses a lot of the time as I find them much more forgiving - no 'waist' to cut into my tummy/hips and create bulges etc. I've just got a load of really lovely summer dresses from TU at Sainsbury's - who if you're not in a desperate rush quite often do 25% off clothing.
The other thing I did was book a personal shopper at John Lewis - they spend 2 hours working with you on what suits you and you can brief them that you want everyday staples, work clothes etc. Even if you don't buy much (can be pricey) it's a good insight into what works for you shape and colourwise.

i'm a pear or hourglass shape jenda. my waist is quite nipped in but i've got a bit of a flabby gut these days. my thighs are the biggest and most revolting part of me. they always have been big in proportion to the rest of me.

colouring wise i'm lightly tanned, light brown hair (reddish) and hazel/green eyes.

i like a casual look. boho type things. due to my health i'm unable to work or go out much at all but even at home or just doing the mundane stuff, i want to start feeling 'better'.

i'm not sure where the closest john lewis is penguin but there's a house of fraser so they may do personal shopping things too? (is it expensive?). i've bought tops occasionally from sainsburys but never seen much of anything else in there. i'll try to get to a bigger store.
