What size?

DuelingFanjo · 12/05/2015 15:51

12, or 10.

I actually like something in this kind of style, with capped sleeves/sleeves as I have two unsightly moles in my armpits

This, but it's not as pretty.

DuelingFanjo · 12/05/2015 15:53

that's nice. Suitable for a wedding you think?

OP posts:
DuelingFanjo · 12/05/2015 15:54

I am rubbish at this. I need a nice dress for a January wedding.

Hobbs

Pantsalive · 12/05/2015 16:00

Sorry, cross post.
I thought for a minute you were posting a picture of your moles. Not much sleep last night
I love that dress. Are you in Australia so a January wedding will be hot? If not, you might want slightly more wintery colours than the original dress.

Pantsalive · 12/05/2015 16:09

I love this dress and it's a similar shape but I think it would be too summery for January. Phase Eight has quite a few dresses with a bit of a sleeve.

Just got to sort food but will check in later.

DuelingFanjo · 12/05/2015 16:11

No - in the UK. Hadn't thought about colours.

I really like this

and this.

I am not sure what I am looking for, for winter but guess we will be indoors for most of it.

Can you find me something like this?

DuelingFanjo · 12/05/2015 16:14

I think maybe you are right - the one I posted is too spring/summer.
Would blue be a good colour for winter? (told you I was rubbish at this)!

OP posts:
DuelingFanjo · 12/05/2015 16:15

or something simple like this?

All the ones I like are out of stock!

here

I love that teal lace one. It reminds me a bit of this dress.

So let's take a couple of steps back and start from the beginning. Why are you looking to buy a dress for a January wedding now? (It might be easier to wait a couple more months until the Autumn/Winter things hit the shops.)

If you need to do it now, what's you budget, size , colouring, favourite features? What sort of style do you usually wear?

I like the last dress one too. I'm sure we could find something similar in stock.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/05/2015 21:37

Love the one that Pants linked to, the rose one.

But why are we looking for dresses for a wedding nearly a year away?

DuelingFanjo · 13/05/2015 10:16

It's because I have a real ingrained fear about sticking out like a sore thumb. I have NEVER dressed 'right' for a wedding. Never ever.

I know that everyone there will be dressed beautifully and I won't be. What I normally do is buy a load of things through the year (Usually through ebay) and then panic at the last moment and throw something on that is fairly comfortable but isn't 'an outfit'.

If that makes sense.

I am 5 ft 6 and currently a size 12 but hope to be a 10 by the time I get to January.

I don't feel comfortable in heels but have bought a pair of nude peeptoe ones which I may wear.

I don't like the formality of the one pants alive posted (Sorry) nor the neckline. I am 45 but think I look younger so don't want to look like a granny.

I tell what I really love is this kind of thing.

or if I were to go for a skirt and top combo something like this

OP posts:
DuelingFanjo · 13/05/2015 10:34

I like this for example but have no idea if it would be even anything near appropriate. Plus at 5 ft 6 maybe I am not tall enough.

this is ok but my moles would show

Sorry to hear you've always felt like that at weddings. I'm sure the combined forces of S&B can find you an outfit you feel brilliant wearing, that will look stylish and entirely appropriate.

Is it going to be the sort of wedding where you could wear an outfit like the cream top and full red skirt as I think that looks lovely?

Also, inspired by the goose skirt, there is a make of vintage style dresses that has line drawings on them. I just can't remember the name. Someone on here was going to wear a London-themed one to a royal garden party. Would that sort of thing appeal?

What's the budget?

DuelingFanjo · 14/05/2015 11:41

"Is it going to be the sort of wedding where you could wear an outfit like the cream top and full red skirt as I think that looks lovely?"

yes I think so. It's in a hotel. If I could find a red dress and cream floaty blouse I could probably go with that but at 5 ft 6 I need the skirt to be right and not drown me.

I found this red skirt but no idea what Scuba fabric is and I guess I need something more structured?

Budget would be up to around £100 I think hence me not being able to buy the Dawn O'Porter Skirt.

Thank you for the sympathy. I think I have a hang up from many years of bullying RE my clothes.

OP posts:
DuelingFanjo · 14/05/2015 14:02

this might be the one for me!

OP posts:
slug · 14/05/2015 14:49

I have that Dawn O'Porter skirt. I only bought it because the woman herself persuaded me to try it on. I thought I'd be too fat, but, despite being a size 18, the L fitted me.

She's lovely by the way. Her and DH had a long chat about the perils of nappy changes.

I love that skirt on ebay and I'm sure you could find a really nice top to go with it. What sort of thing did you have in mind? Something like the cream top in the photo you posted?

What do you think of the skirt in this link? You have to scroll to the middle.

DuelingFanjo · 19/05/2015 12:38

The red M&S one is lovely.

OP posts:
DuelingFanjo · 19/05/2015 16:59

doesn't seem to be available yet though?

OP posts:
Pantsalive · 04/06/2015 10:39

DuelingFanjo - that M&S skirt is now available online, here. It looks very cool. I'd be interested to know what the fabric feels like. I think you could get something very pretty to go on top to weddingify it a bit.

However, if you wanted a simpler option, I'd go with a dress and then you only have to worry about shoes and a bag. This dress is very like one of the ones you posted before but would be a bit more suited to a January wedding.
