Peelers please advise

I have faint (to me trench-like) lines on my upper lip as a result of years of nervous lip chewing. Will a peel make a difference? How awful / painful / dangerous / unsightly is a peel strong enough to be effective and would I be able to get it on this one area only? I have never had any kind of peel so have nothing to compare against.

You can buy diy peels on eBay and just apply where needed. search for glycolic peel and a good seller should describe the difference in strengths

I have tried glycolic 30% and salicylic 20% (which is stronger) but haven't had great results - skin resurfacing seems a slow process at these sort of strengths and I'm not brave enough to try stronger ones

I think I'm too chicken to try it myself! But would go to a salon / clinic if it was worthwhile. There is a blue (obagi?) one I believe that is pretty aggressive and effective, but are you left massively sun-sensitive forever after and then just likely to suffer more damage?
