Colouring my own hair

Apart from some dodgy harmony hair colours in school I've always had my hair highlighted at the salon.

But last time it was done I wasn't really happy with it, and I have friends who use expensive salons for a good cut and then colour their own hair.

Is it likely to be disastrous?
I have blonde and caramel highlights but would love to go more ginger

I've been wondering the same. I have ash blonde highlights, am naturally mid brown lightening to dark blonde in summer.

It's costing me a fortune and I'm never that happy with it. I saw esalon online but am not sure I'm brave enough..

What's esalon?

Nope not likely to be disastrous at all. It is so easy to go redder. I suggest you use L'oreal castings in Amber. It will give a good ginger tone to the hair without darkening it too much. Buy two packets though to make sure you get good coverage.

I find that my hair tends to go ginger whatever shade I put on it! As long as you don't want to be blonde it should be fine

Do it! I did a couple of years ago over very blonde highlighted hair, and it looked great. My hair takes colour really well though. I guess it depends on length and thickness of your hair as to how much coverage you have.

Not sure about shades seeing as I just do brown, but can really recommend the Color Mask dye, I've tried quite a few and it's v easy to apply.

I'm already blonde but would like to be a bit darker.
I'm worried it'll end up some awful shade of ginger
My hair is pretty thin and long

Esalon is an online thing where you send them a pic, tell them what you're after and they mix up a bespoke dye for you. Loads of glowing reviews on Amazon but I'm scared.
I just want a darker blonde Confused
