Comfort over style?

So, we are off to California this summer and I am mentally packing my suitcase already.
My problem is shoes. We will be doing a fair bit of walking as well as days on the beach, Grand Canyon although I probably will not leave the air conditioned coach, Universal Studios etc.
I was looking at a pair of Skechers on QVC this morning, the pull on trainer type and have also looked at Saltwater sandals. Both would fit my brief in terms of comfort but DH has said if they make me look like a granny I can walk 10 paces behind him and the DC!
So, the dilemma, comfort over potential fugliness.

Forgot to add that I am nearly 49.

Not grannyish at all! I'm planning to get myself a neon pink pair of trainers to wear with eg skinny jeans and fine jumPer. Look for inspiration here

(I'm also planning to buy saltwater sandals next month!)

I wear Converse pumps and birkinstocks in summer. I'm 40 and fashionablish, I wear skinny jeans or linen trousèrs with them and they look good.

RoganJosh · 10/05/2015 08:07

Just to add, what do you normally wear in summer?

OinkBalloon · 10/05/2015 08:12

Rubbish! How unkind of him. Tell him to wear smart shoes for desert or beach walking. Wear what you like. They're shoes FGS, they serve a purpose first. Fashion is a long, loooong way second place.

FriskyMare · 10/05/2015 08:13

Rogan, I do possess several pairs of Birkenstock which I can happily wear all day but am thinking I will need something more supportive when walking about all day.

Totally ignore him! We were at Disney last year and I would say that majority of people were wearing trainers of some sort on their feet. Long queues, few seats etc. Ditto when we went to the Grand Canyon. I wore bright pink Skechers most of our holiday.

Shybairns · 10/05/2015 08:17

Yanks all were brightly coloured trainers. In heat and with miles to walk I would always go for comfort. Not like your going to see anyone who would judge you.

Oink DH was only joking! I don't want to spend upwards of £100 on two pairs of shoes and feel frumpy in them.
I think I will order them and see what Dd17 thinks. But if they are sooo comfy I won't care.

Wedgy cork sandals with a Birkenstock style footbed are my favourites for the Summer. But I also have a pair of Skechers Mary Janes on my Amazon Wishlist...Smile

FriskyMare · 10/05/2015 08:21

Am liking the Camper ones you linked 2fedup but £90!! I also have some superga from a couple of years ago but the material in the heel cup has come away and I think they may rub if I go sock less.

My other consideration is the weight of the shoes as we are hoping to travel light not much chance with a 17 year old dd

Something like this, or with more straps for support.

Have a look at merrill pumps; I wore mine for the whole of Glastonbury with no socks. Also have some great hotter pump things.

Im25, and my friends describe me as fashion obsessed which makes me cringe!

Anyway I have a pair of black sketchers go walk 2, I thought I'd look like a granny but I could wear them nursing: I live in them. So comfortable, get lots of comments on them, they keep my feet cool and I just chuck them in the washing machine!
