Why are childrens' nighties nylon and pyjamas cotton?

Just that really. Have been trying to get nighties for my little ones (2 and 3) and the only ones available seem to be nylon or polyester. Whereas there are loads of lovely cotton pyjamas.

Any idea why this would be?

Nightdresses of polyester are more flame resistant. Looser fit = slightly higher likelihood of catching a naked flame in some circumstances

Oh really - so it's a safety thing. How interesting (off to google...)

Try Boden - only place I've found for long, cotton nighties that aren't all old-fashioned frills. They wash very well and last for years, mine have done continuous use for at least four years.

I've never understood this either. The only place I've managed to get cotton nighties is from boden, but it's cotton jersey

If it's a regulation then no-one, not even Boden, should flout it. Does anyone know definitively? I'm only talking about childrens' nighties.

Monsoon have cotton children's nighties. And Laura Ashley used to, don't know if they still do.

I bought stretchy cotton to make my own for DD, that was about 9 months ago and I still haven't got round to it! Smile

Children's nightwear is supposed to be class A fabric I think, thats what the flame retardant-ness is called?

www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/1985/2043/pdfs/uksi_19852043_en.pdf This is the law on Childrens nightwear and flammability.

Def try Boden for fab cotton nighties. A bit pricey but well worth the money, especially if you can hand them down. My 8 year old dd wears her older sisters' 3rd hand ones and they're still going strong.

Thanks all. I understand now. I felt like the world has gone mad, but it all makes sense.
