Any ideas how to springify my skirt?

One of my favourite outfits in winter is a skirt like this worn with opaques, boots, a dark marl grey, slightly loose cashmere jumper and a big scarf.

Can anyone suggest how to style the skirt into more of a spring look please? I want to look less wintery but still be warm as I work in an air conditioned building.

no idea, love the sound of your winter outfit though! what style of boots do you wear with it? and what colour?

unhelpful, sorry!

CarpeJugulum · 09/05/2015 18:58

Light blouse and a neat cardi for warmth in lighter colours? Almost a twin set idea?

mewkins · 09/05/2015 20:00

I wear a lot of those in winter too. Don't wear much on summer as I get a bit stuck and they are a bit short for my bare legs! With knee length ones though I wear sandals (saltwater) and a looser plain tshirt. Sometimes a sort of crossover sleeveless jersey top.

Thanks carpe and mewkins I think i'll have a trying on session tomorrow and might take it shopping with me so I can try it on with tops in the shops.

Shy I normally wear with calf length black ankle boots, I have some chunky biker type ones and also some slimmer, ruched style

That doesn't make much sense! they are above ankle, almost calf length boots

I wouldn't wear a skirt that short with bare legs - OK with opaques, but at 48 I need a bit more knee coverage if I'm not wearing tights. So for me that wouldn't work in the summer.

But if you are more of a spring chicken surely you could wear it with a shirt (e.g. denim) or any other summery top, and sandals?

Buy another in a spring colour?

scotswoman · 10/05/2015 12:05

Shona I'd definitely pick up another colour. I do wear far more navy than black because I feel like black is a bit harsh to wear with lots of colors really, I'm not keen on it with brights etc.

Cointrea I'm 30, 5'8 and my legs are probably my best feature so hopefully I can pull it off. Don't own a denim shirt but I will try one on with it on a shopping trip as I can picture it looking spring like rather than summery which is really what I want.

I'm thinking because the skirt is quite tight and clingy I need a looser top to balance it out? Does that seem right?

Definitely rests on whether you are Ok getting that much leg out or not. If yes, you can easily 'Springify' it with a top or tee like the model is wearing, a little cardi or blazer and a nice pair of sandals or wedges, all in lighter, fresher colours than charcoal.

But if you dont want to get a bit of thigh out, not sure...

I wear a lot of shorter skirts and dresses with thick tights in winter, but change my style up in warmer weather, as I dont get my legs above the knee out. If you wanted something fitted but longer, you could go for a prncil skirt or midi tube skirt?

scotswoman · 10/05/2015 12:26

Thanks sounding, I'm tall and slim so think I'm ok with the length, I have more of an issue with the footwear maybe as I really only wear sandals when it's properly warm. I also worry I will look too plain in the skirt with a loose tee but think I'd be over dressed in a pencil skirt! Maybe I'm finding problems where there aren't any. I don't think I'm very confident and like to be understated and bled in which is possibly the bigger issue.

You say you change your style up in warmer weather, can you give me an idea of what you go for?

I would suggest a loose plain T tucked in with a cardi or slightly cropped denim jacket. Accessories with big necklace and sunglasses.

Bare legs if your ok with that (I would tend to go for this look but with a midi skirt until it was properly hot out).

Could be worn with just flat shoes until summer time then sandals (those gladiator up leg type ones would look good).

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 10/05/2015 12:58

For casual, I wear skirts like that (Whistles ones, vary between mid thigh and just above the knee on me) with bare legs, Converse, a t--shirt and a denim jacket.

For work, I wear them with nude tights and ballet shoes.

mewkins · 11/05/2015 14:08

How about a looser cotton blouse/cami? That will balance the tightness of the skirt.

hauntedhenry · 11/05/2015 14:54

Look at the hush website. They have skirts similar to yours styled in a variety of ways for spring.
