Where do you buy clothes for your 12/13 yo DS?

DS is too tall for the kids clothes, not yet fitting men's' clothes. As far as I can tell he is a women's size 8/10 for t shirts but really this is not going to get us very far! He is not very label conscious, hence my ability to give him the odd t shirt of mine.

I must be looking in the wrong places! All advice welcome. Not too pricey please, he is growing like a beanstalk so I will only get 6 months' wear out of anything....

H&m mainly. But it is a tricky age, as you say small mens stuff is too big and kids is too small.

Have got some bits from m&S as well.

I8toys · 09/05/2015 13:57

H&M for mine as well - he's 11 but looks about 14 - so 14+ stuff but also small men's.

Fridayschild · 09/05/2015 13:59

Thanks. Will give them a go. Last time we looked he felt it was too trendy (?) but if it's that or the ladies department he might be less fussy!

Gap mens wearin size XS is the next size up from Gap age 12-13

Got 12 yr old DS hisfirst "men's" hoodie...

Also, for trousers, johnny B (boden for teens), you can "tweak"by ordering longer version for narrow waist.

5madthings · 09/05/2015 14:03

Oh yes gap and Johnny b, but when in the sale!

Gap outlet stores are good.

BabyGanoush · 09/05/2015 14:04

yes, in sale!

They grow out of it in 2 months again anyway at this age ...

5madthings · 09/05/2015 14:06

I don't mind paying a bit more, but I have four boys 15, 12, 10 and 7 so I can hand stuff down!

Ludways · 09/05/2015 14:10

My 13 yo ds gets a lot of stuff in XS mens.

OneMagnumisneverenough · 09/05/2015 14:10

H&M, Next, Laredoute on-line. Otherwise you are mainly looking at Sportswear and I've never been a fan of that for everyday wear so discouraged it :)

main uniform for my 13 and 14 year olds (who now take M to L mens size) is joggy shorts and t-shirts and hoodies, they also have jeans/chinos and smarter t-shirts/polo shirts etc that get used when visiting or out for lunch etc.

Justusemyname · 09/05/2015 14:12

BHS go up to 17 but my 14 year old is out of them. M&S do pyjamas 15-16 on line but again, he wore them once and then they were too short.

I wish someone would reassess sizes as this is ridiculous that at 14 I'm having To buy adult clothes.

My DD is 11 and M&S decided to stop certain things at 14 so that's no more trousers for her as she is in the size 14 years now at 11!

TheFallenMadonna · 09/05/2015 14:15

My 13yo of over 6ft so definitely wears adult sizes. Before his drastic growth spurt I bought most of his stuff from Zara.

OneMagnumisneverenough · 09/05/2015 14:27

Well, I guess the sizes are based on averages but I am also fed up with paying for adult clothes for children.

But the size of children at those age 10 - 16 ages vary so much.

My 13 year old is over 6 foot and wears mens M/L and 32 waist/34 leg trousers, but his older brothers 15 year old friend still fits age 12 - not sure we can really blame the shops but it is a pain.

Fridayschild · 09/05/2015 16:38

Thank you, I will try those stores as well.

XS size in River Island & Topman.
Also XS in men's Primark clothes.

CointreauVersial · 09/05/2015 17:47

Primark is a good place to look; often it's the x-small men's sizes which are left on the shelves.

H&M goes up to age 14 I think, as does Next (but online only).

burnishedsilver · 09/05/2015 18:06

Hollister and superdry are the only brands I can find to fit my tall skinny teens. They both do a 28 inch waist.

When DS was 12/13, it was mainly Primark and some H&M, plus Nike trainers.

hugoagogo · 09/05/2015 20:44

Next goes up to 16 online, ds is 16 now and well over 6 ft and still wears some next kids stuff. and the things he has grown out of I wear
H&m is good too.
It's weird isn't it that so many shops stop at age 12? Well not weird, so much as money grabbing I suppose. Hmm

HelpMeGetOutOfHere · 09/05/2015 22:41

Hm and next should fit. They both go up to age 16ish.

My 13yr old ds2 (yr8) is 6ft and size 10 feet so we're well into adult clothing. We went shopping two weekends ago and went to primark, topman, super dry, hollister, jd sports and Costco! Got some lovely t shirts in Costa. Nfl ones, North face, under armour. And a waterproof under armour hoodie. Like a normal sweatshirt zip up hoodie but it's waterproof!
