Does anybody remember these hair clips from their childhood?

When I was wee many little girls used to wear round hair clips, usually in a brown colour - tortoiseshell or checked - or sometimes in a pink gingham colour.

They clipped rather than slid in.

I'm desperate to find some, all usual places (boots, amazon, poundshop) drawn a blank.

I think my best bet is a traditional pharmacy that carries more dated stock. I keep looking!

If anybody finds these hairclips when out and about, please send me them and I will more than repay the favour :)

Were they ones where you pressed 2 things at the side to open?

Pantsalive · 08/05/2015 10:20

Do you mean ones like these?

You don't see them anywhere anymore, do you? My fringe was always held out of the way by one of those at one point. They were pretty small...

calamitySloeGin · 08/05/2015 10:30

oval barrette clip is this what you mean? not round but a starting point!

MorrisZapp · 08/05/2015 10:39

YES! The ones in pantsalives link! And on the other link too.

Blimey, they really are 'vintage' then. Brilliant work, many thanks :)

I think I've see them in Claire's Accesories

mrssmiling · 08/05/2015 13:44

Was the brand something like 'Lady Jayne'?

MrsMarigold · 08/05/2015 13:55

yes Lady Jayne I still have a few from my childhood

BaroquePearl · 08/05/2015 15:35

Ooh Lady Jayne! They are so familiar to me now I see them again. The image of them brings back that smell of local pharmacy to me, all Bronnley, Radox and faded carpet tiles.

ImperialBlether · 08/05/2015 15:38

I knew you'd be talking about these! They were like Polo mints.

Rosieliveson · 08/05/2015 15:42

Ooh, I actually have a couple of clips like this bought a few years ago from boots. I use them to clip back my fringe! They are both diamante but they did have other styles at the time. Worth keeping an eye out.

afink · 08/05/2015 16:09

I loved those clips - wish I could find some now.

Pantsalive · 08/05/2015 16:14

I couldn't find any when I looked online earlier, other than those 'vintage' ones.

slippermaiden · 08/05/2015 16:18

They have ones like that in boots sometimes, or morrisons.

I knew exactly which ones you'd be referring to before I opened the thread!

Funny how we all wore the same ones. I guess it was back in the days before the deluge of cheap stuff from the far east....

Dancergirl · 08/05/2015 19:10

Oh God, I remember these so well!

Also...does anyone remember those pony tail bands with bows you bought from Boots? The bows were either satin or velvet and came in a million different colours. They came on a burgundy backing card.

Saurus72 · 08/05/2015 19:52

Try searching for Scunci brand hair bare totes on the Pretty Pieces website - they have some nice things (that for some reason I only use in the Summer to get my hair out of my face). Stonebridge also has good hair buts, but expensive.

Saurus72 · 08/05/2015 20:45

Ok, not hair totes or hair buts Confused - hair barrettes

MorrisZapp · 09/05/2015 11:02

Thank you so much GemmaTeller! Have ordered them. I don't have a little girl by the way, they're for meeeeeee :)
