Dress for Uni reunion

MargoReadbetter · 06/05/2015 20:56

I know you're busy with the election. But can anyone spare some time to recommend a dress or outfit for a Uni reunion I'm going to in June? I think I have the day dress (a DvF I'm still trying to slim into) but not the evening one. I'm 5'8" and size 14ish. A Winter at HoC. Nothing too outrageous, it's a 25th years reunion and, although I haven't been at any others, I know I'm not the 23 y.o from graduation. Max £200. Thank you.

What are your favourite colours?

What sort of length do you want?

Do you want sleeves?

Eye-popper or understated and classy? Grin

How do you feel about something like this?

MargoReadbetter · 07/05/2015 18:00

Thanks for replying. Colours: black, grey, fuschia, red. I love green but it doesn't suit me as well as the others.

I don't mind sleeveless or showing knees.

The link is ...err... different :) I mean it's elegant, but perhaps a bit too asymmetrical. If it had a straight hem I think it would work.

I just went to one of these and most people were in knee length cocktail the things.
Classic to dress up with fab shoes...
DVF LBD
Very pink

MargoReadbetter · 07/05/2015 18:18

Yes, those DVF ones look good. Would the black one not be too safe? It's in my size too. This could be easy.

The KM one: I like the cut but not sure about the colour combination. After a few glasses it might give eye strain.
I wish the outnet didn't havd such a difficult delivery system.

You could always go for some fierce strappy shoes...
Zara in Black or Red they'd make my legs look shirt and stumpy but at 5' 8" you could rock them.

MargoReadbetter · 07/05/2015 19:23

Nice shoes, higher than I'd usually wear but why not!

I've shown DH the black DVF dress (price tag carefully scrolled out of sight) and he likes it. He's not coming along at the reunion as it's abroad and he won't know anyone.
I've been looking at some more dresses on The Outnet, thinking of something more colourful. After a while, though, they all start looking like the BHS or Debenhams prom collection, just 10 times more expensive.

C&C - how did your reunion go? Was it cringey or did you just fit in straight away?

We had a fab time, I was very nervous but a group of us met for glass of fizz first and that loosened us all up nicely Grin

ClaraDeLaNoche · 07/05/2015 19:46

Yes go for the DVF one. It will be such a beautiful shape and you don't want to look like you've tried too hard like you're at a wedding or something. I went to one recently, thought ?privately natch) there were too many people trying too hard. It's stylish and you'll wear it again.

MargoReadbetter · 07/05/2015 20:25

Thank you, thank you! The black DVF bought and on its way. A black & fuschia DVF for day, unless something else catches my eye before then. I don't really have time for shopping, so I think this will be it. I'll get back with requests for accessories suggestions. Now back to low carving for those last 3-4 kg. Thanks again.

I have got back in touch via FB with a few really close friends from 25 years ago and I'll be meeting them but I'm a teeny bit nervous as we'll be hundreds, I think. I think it's good I'm not going with DH as it means I will have to mingle.
Thanks for helping. Really appreciated. Screw the elections. I got something good out of today :)

Just came back to recommend some more, and you've done it Grin

LOVE the black DVF, it's gorgeous.

MargoReadbetter · 07/05/2015 21:24

Oh, thanks, still open for suggestions. The DVF will get here on the 16th as no one else at home for delivery before then.

OOOH fab! I love that dress.

You will look gorgeous and I'll join you on the bootcamp threads to lose those 3-4 kg :)

MargoReadbetter · 07/05/2015 22:14

It's a plan!! I'll look out for a weight loss thread. Thanks again. I'll let you know how IT is when it turns up. My 'do' is mid-June so there's still some time.

Gorgeous dress! I bloody love it when you just find the one :D

MargoReadbetter · 16/05/2015 13:05

The dress arrived. Good fabric and cut. Perfect length. Neckline really good, neither prissy nor vulgar, small bust cut.

It must however be the smallest size 14 in the universe. It fits me and holds me (tight) but it could do with an extra inch, or me with a couple less.

So I think I'm going to keep it as the whole process of exchanging it is far too expensive and bothersome. I'll diet a bit more in the month left (7kg so far, maybe another 3kg).

It is a bit creased and it smells of moths but it has time to air. I have some misgivings whether I'd use it much in the future, for occasions when I don't have months in advance to prepare. Of course the intention is to keep the weight off :)

Spanx and no carbs for a few days before and it will be positively baggy Grin
Usually DVF is big, how annoying!

ImperialBlether · 16/05/2015 16:29

Would something like this Jigsaw dress suit you?

LikeABadSethRogenMovie · 16/05/2015 16:35

tethers I LOVE that dress you linked to in your first post. I've been looking for something for one of DHs work things that's coming up and that would be perfect. Thank you!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 16/05/2015 16:44

That Jigsaw dress is beautiful, Blether, but I wonder what it would look like on a woman with a bust. The model is more or less flatchested.

ImperialBlether · 16/05/2015 16:48

True. Back to it, then!

ImperialBlether · 16/05/2015 16:49

Another Jigsaw dress here - this one is a burgundy lace dress.

ImperialBlether · 16/05/2015 16:57

A green one this time - silk chiffon.

Or this one, - same design but maxi.
