my hair is very grey indeed - i started going grey in my early 20's and i am 50 now. I have been paying over £50 every 5wks at local salon. The colour is lovely but i can see my roots through after only 2weeks. This is a new salon and their colours are better believe it or not - its just my hair grows fast !I just cannot afford to continue paying this amount out.My only option is to go back to home colouring (which I hate) as my hair ends up patchy. Do others colour the whole head and not just roots to ensure even coverage. any help would be lovely thank you

I, too, am having this problem. I used to get my hair done at a salon and I liked it but it's too expensive to do every three weeks. Not to mention time-consuming during a busy day. So I have been doing it at home (Clairol Nice n Easy or L'Oreal something-or-other). The problem with doing it at home hasn't been patchiness, per se, so much as feeling like I'm just not fully getting the greys covered. It is very annoying.

I know some women go in for lighter hair colour and highlights so that grey roots aren't as drastic between touch-ups, but my hair is a very dark brown and I don't think I can really do much to lighten it.

I always assumed that salon colour is stronger and will at least cover grey better, even if regrowth is a pricey problem. I don't actually know if that is true.
