Upper lip skin discoloration

Hi all,

I'm 30 years old and have quite prominent discoloration on my upper lip. I've had it for a few years now, not due to pregnancy. I've never done anything to treat it or lighten skin. Just wondered if anyone has tried anything that worked for them?

Are you on the pill? Do you use SPF every day?

AntsontheApple · 03/05/2015 18:12

Not on any type of pill. I use bare minerals which has spf in it but I'm thinking I need to use a proper spf. Was thinking somesomething like city block.

I get a really annoying fucking moustache on my top lip unless I use SPF 25 EVERY. FUCKING. DAY. ALL FUCKING YEAR.

so, maybe that's you! thanks mum for telling me

Mrsmorton · 03/05/2015 18:29

Sorry, I mean, maybe that doesn't help. I'm Mediterranean skin tone? Anyway. Yea. Factor 25c, soap and glory moisturiser every day. Or I'm poirot.

Mabelface · 03/05/2015 18:30

I use factor 50 on my face when it's sunny or I get the same plus on my forehead also.

AntsontheApple · 03/05/2015 18:38

Definitely my first stop then! I'll get some tomorrow. Did you find it faded using spf? Any recommendations? Thanks!

Yes SPF made a huge difference but it's definitely every day. If you do lip balm get spf that too.

LettuceLaughton · 03/05/2015 19:43

SPF will certainly help.

Are you maybe bleaching your 'tash? That can cause dark discoloration too.

violetbunny · 03/05/2015 19:47

It sounds like melasma, I had the same thing. You must be vigilant in protecting your face from sun as this worsens it. That means SPF 30 daily plus a hat if going out in the sun. Laser pigmentation removal helped get rid of mine. A strong (25%) vitamin c product and /or hydroquinone will also help.

AntsontheApple · 04/05/2015 14:53

No bleaching. Thanks everyone. Will get trying!

I have some discoloration and I am having laser treatment. Maybe look into that.
