Nails go funny after wearing polish for some time...

As above - I can only usually get a couple of days out of my finger nails before chipping, but manage a couple of weeks with my toes.

However, when I remove the varnish, the nails have got white, rough areas on them - like the varnish has eaten into them a bit.... Is it because I left the varnish on too long or because there was no base coat? Not sure if I need to remove more frequently and give them a few days in between to recover. Any advice please?

I get this too but only on big toes!

No idea why so watching with interest....

This happens to me too. Someone once suggested it's to do with formaldehyde in the nail polish? I haven't painted my toes yet since last summer so they look healthy again but I know as soon as put polish on, they'll be wrecked

Maybe try less aggressive polish, lots of the big companies; Opi, Essie etc are now '3 free' ie free of the three most dangerous commonly used chemicals in nail polish, the best companies, Zoya is one, are '5 free'.

They are more expensive but worth it imo, my toes are painted pretty much year round but always look perfectly normal when the varnish is removed for repainting.

Gobblers Thanks for the info about Zoya. I also get the flaky fingernails problem after wearing polish and have pretty much given up wearing the stuff.

1 bottle of Zoya Polish is now on its way to me!

Thanks all - i have Opi and am sure the same thing happens with that too. Maybe I just leave it on too long - I must try to shorten the time and then see if that makes a difference,,,
