Veneers??? Any advice?

I have poor enamel on my top front teeth and a couple of old veneers because of this. I'd like a new set along the top front, so that they all look similar, it is really starting to bother me quite a bit.

Could anybody advise me please, I don't really have anyone to ask that has already had these done and it is partly confidence as well as partly vanity. I'm already starting to hate photos and smiling.

I asked my dentist about this recently as my teeth are beginning to look a bit 'old'. She said it wasn't worth it - they apparently file down your existing teeth to stubs and then put the caps on top of that and as such it damages the integrity of your teeth. I'm still thinking about it though...

So, can you just ask your dentist about it at your next appointment?

Carolyn impact and like false fingernails. A little is take from the face of the tooth. I've seen people whose whole outlook and confidence has changed for the better after having veneers x

Arse. I've managed to paste a text message slap in the middle of that post!!

I think they file down half a mm from the front of the tooth and attach a nice looking/shape veneer on the front. That is what I am after anyway.

I am going to ask the dentist, I think my outlook and confidence will improve with them. I've heard they can need a bit of looking after and upkeep but I think it will be worth it for me rather than being unhappy with my teeth everyday.

I had one of my bottom teeth done 2 weeks ago.

The tooth was squint so it was set back from the other teeth (if that makes sense?)

My dentist matched the exact colour, and now all of my bottom teeth are straight.

He had to file the tooth a little bit, just to give the veneer more grip (the same way you do to paintwork before you paint)

I love it, it doesn't look fake AT ALL, and it just tidies everything up. I don't think anyone else would have been aware of it, but it makes so much difference to me.

It cost me £315.

The only advice I had was, to cut apples up before I ate them, and to use scissors to cut sellotape rather than my teeth!

I've had the front 10 top teeth done (incisors are crowns, rest veneers).

I had them done in 2009 mostly (went a bit further round at the sides last year). I had them done to address a couple of issues - front teeth came in a bit and I had a dark incisor due to root canal probs which they'd tried to internally bleach but it hadn't worked. I had braces when a teenager and I just couldn't be bothered with all that again, I wanted an instant fix.

They have to take a thin layer off for the veneers so the veneers stick (although very little for me as the point of getting mine was to bulk my teeth out). For the crowns they grind the existing teeth down to a thin stump.

I have had no problems bar a little sensitivity for a short while after it and a crown came out once but luckily I caught it before it went down the plug hole and they just glued it back in.

I love them. I have perfectly straight and naturally white (not Hollywood white!) teeth. They make such a difference to your appearance.

Sorry yes, I am careful and cut up apples, crusty bread etc before I eat it... It's a lot of money so you need to be relatively careful, but it's really not hard.
