veryStressedMum I am but I seem to be blessed with not v sensitive skin.

You can still acid tone in the morning with Retin-A, it's more controversial doing it in the evening too. And you can totally use serums with Retin-A, as long as they don't have extra retinol it.

The order of putting things on is usually watery to oily - and given Retin-A is usually an oily ointment it goes last, or last before moisturiser, as not much is going to be absorbed through it.

Thanks Kundry and Tizwailer, I too have glass of wine to comiserate for being confined indoors all day (...plus getting a sneaky last one in before the low carb boot camp starts tomorrow).
One side's gone down - the other is still looking like I've been sparring with Merryweather. And of course nothing going near my face apart from water tonight. Ah well.

What do you all think about ch's beauty box post this evening? I feel £100 is just too much. I understand why she doesn't want to do sample sizes and its a big saving but I just can't justify spending that much. I knew it'd be more than the existing beauty boxes, but was anticipating £30 - £40 which I probably would have gone with.

VeryStressedMum · 10/05/2015 21:10

Thanks kundry, I've been acid toning in the mornings after using retin a and its been fine. And I've been putting on moisturiser after retin a but I think I'll add a serum too. I've been trying to read up on it but tbh I've no idea what they're talking about.
From what I can gather I need a 10% glycolic acid, retin a and vitamin c..the best vit c seems to be skinceuticals but it's mega money so it's in my wish list.
But then the web sites start talking about alternating current products on different days and I'm lost. Smile

Kundry · 10/05/2015 21:32

Have you seen the Hot and Flashy video on Vit C?

Skinceuticals is the original but it's been around a few years now - long enough for other people to make a serum with Vit C, Vit E and Ferulic acid. For less than half the price. Bearing in mind you throw half the serum away as the Vit C oxidises before you can use it all.

The serum she uses is a steal even with shipping and she proves it works. BigButtons had a link to how you could make your own or buy one v cheaply. I'm going to pick one of those options.

VeryStressedMum · 10/05/2015 21:54

Oooh I'm going to look at her video later, thanks.

bigbuttons · 10/05/2015 22:07

I make my c, e ferulic and ha serum every 2 weeks. Even buying all the ingredients it's cheaper than shop bought. I have a large amount of powder HA which I can use to make up small amounts of gel.Smile

I just know I'd buy all the ingredients to make the serum and never do it. I am just not organised enough and I know it! I'm intrigued by sr skincare and active formulas - both do cheap vit c/e/ferrulic serums. Anyone know if they are any good?

Kundry · 10/05/2015 22:17

I've bought the Vit C and I'd say it is the real deal in terms of ingredients - it oxidizes if you don't use it quickly - but I didn't like the formulation. It's more like a light cream than a serum. Which others might like but I prefer my watery stuff from dropper bottles.

Kundry · 10/05/2015 22:25

Aaaargh - it had to happen. I've just knocked over my Hylamide bottle and lost half of it on the floor Sad Serves me right I suppose for saying I preferred the dropper bottles Blush

cathyandclaire · 11/05/2015 06:34

Enormous, I get the baby chick/kicked by a horse thing too!
I long for a soothing, moisturising eye cream or oil that won't be sucked up and collect in my eye bags and turn them into bloody big suitcases.
If you find one please share, I'm still hunting.
Don't try Vaseline or Sudocreme, my under-eyes looked like Austrian Blinds after those.

VeryStressedMum · 11/05/2015 07:20

Oh no kundry is there much left?
I looked at the hot and flashy bit c comparison and the one she liked best was the one I already looked at, can't get it in the UK but from the website it's 25 dollars and 7 dollars shipping not sure what that is in pounds. I think I'm going to try the SR skincare vit c serum first. It only has 10% vit c and doesn't give the quantities of vit e or ferulic but it's very cheap and it looks quite good. I'm also wondering if anyone has used the sr range and what do you think? I'm also thinking of getting the 5% salicylic and haloxyl eye cream. And a peel Grin

Fatstacks · 11/05/2015 07:26

If anyone is doing their arm tops too I bought nip fab
www.amazon.co.uk/NIP-FAB-Glycolic-Fix-Body/dp/B00MOWO7VK/ref=sr_1_22/276-3181826-5759652?ie=UTF8&qid=1431324980&sr=8-22&keywords=nip+and+fab

And

If you have subscribe and save it's even cheaper and my arms (that looked rougher than the Müller bears) look so smooth and healthy that even my bingo batwings aren't putting me off vests!

Using their Dragons blood pads too and loving those.

Kundry · 11/05/2015 07:28

I like the peels, mixed feelings about the eye serum (think it helps, hate the consistency) and didn't like the Vit C - but then I gave up on that because of the same issue.

I can't remember the name of BigButtons recommendation, hopefully she'll be back soon to tell us.

Oh and half the Hylamide is currently preventing wrinkles on the floor Sad

Fatstacks · 11/05/2015 07:32

Kundry I would at least rub the back of my hands in it actually would roll my face Don't waste it! Grin

Itsalldramarama · 11/05/2015 07:55

Oh no Kundry :)
I also got the dragons blood pads to alternate with the glyclolic ones , very moist and calming ( I dwvwlope 2 spots on my forehead and silly me squeezed them :( I look like I have 4 eyes :( just spend ages trying to create a half fringe as I usually wear my hair back !! Hides one at least !!
Skin is looking good apart from the extra eyes !!
Also bought some LRP redermic R and used for the first time last night ! Impressed so far ....

Gah. Am developing a yucky cyst-like spot in the middle of my cheek. Sad Have not used different products but have been trying to use more of the Clarins Blue Lotus Oil. Will put it down to that together with PMT.

ilovetosleep · 11/05/2015 14:15

I think I will try the SR vit C serum once I'm used to the rest of my new products. never realised i have such sensitive skin but the Redermic is making me sore again. I used it on Saturday night, my skin was ok yesterday and I skipped it last night, was intending to do every other night this time. But regardless, today my skin feels tight, dry and sore again at the outer edges of my nose/towards my mouth. Is this something I should work through? In the meantime I am on the look out for a healing wet moisturiser, is there anything in Boots anyone can recommend? I was meaning to get Cerave but I was hoping to be able to pick something up today rather than wait for a delivery plus I'm away later this week so won't be here to receive it.

TheWombat · 11/05/2015 18:31

Just posted this on the Korean Skincare thread, but it might be useful here too! I found this really useful resource for sensitive or acne prone skin:
www.cosdna.com
You basically type any product into the box and it brings up a list of ingredients, with any potentially breakout/sensitivity-triggering ingredients flagged out of 5. It's awesome - very helpful in terms of identifying potential triggers and analysing ingredients lists of products too.

FrugalFashionista · 11/05/2015 19:51

UntamedShrew I'd try hydrogel eye patches, possibly unperfumed ones (perfume tends to irritate my dry eyes).

BB creams - the Euro alternatives I have tried were horrid orange or really greasy. I tried an Asian alternative and there is no going back. A variety of finishes, matte or glowy, sheer or decent coverage, but they make my skin look fab. Dr Jart is available at Boots, golden tube for more coverage or green tube for super sheer, black tube is the darkest one. I've tried the silver one once in 2012 when a beauty blogger friend let me try hers trying to convince me to order some from eBay. Loved that too but was too lazy to mail order. Missha BB creams are great too. Perfect Cover #13 is ghostly pale, #21 is probably a great starting point. Some other ladies on this thread have other favorites. My BBs are a whole lot more than tinted moisturizer and I really like them. This is probably heretic but I mix two shades to get a perfect shade match and apply them using my Real Techniques stippling brush.

Has anyone trird BB cushions?

UntamedShrew · 11/05/2015 19:54

Thank you Frugal! Flowers

And yes Shock at cost of CH box - doesn't she know how much we have spent on skincare since these threads started??! I'd have preferred a box of smaller sizes but can sort of see the thinking behind it.
