Hi, I keep buying eye shadows that I think are matt and they look great in shops, but always end up glittery when I put them on at him ( incl you Mia perfect colours but too glittery, grr). So can anyone recommend a soft matt range that isn't chalky but isn't 'shimmery' either?

Urban Decay Naked Basics palette. Lovely colours and very matte.

Paint pots by Mac. Lovely creamy, dense matt shades. Last forever

Defo consider Mac

Makeup geek do lovely ones. From America but shipping fast and reasonable. I actually prefer them to MAC, heavily pigmented too

Thank you all for your replies, I will try Mac tomorrow. Strangely I always find Mac counters intimidating, I'm fine everywhere else, but will put my big girls pants on and give them a try. If not maybe it's time to splash out on the naked basics palette, I thought I was saving money with the mua copy but I guess you get what you pay for.

I have a Mua palette that is matte shades only. Cost £4 and is really good. It says Matte up in the left hand corner unlike the other Mua sets. B & M have W7 palettes that are matte in too.

JavaSparrow · 26/04/2015 22:27

Oooh thank you dafty, I will def look out for that as I quite like the colours in the one I have.

I've just bought two MUA palettes, one is all matte, one is a mix, and MUA is on 3 for 2 in S'drug at the mo, so yay. I've seen people on here swear that the Undressed and Undressed 2 palettes (MUA) are dupes for UD's Naked palette, and so far, have to agree. I haven't tried all the colours, but they are v fine powder, quite good coverage, and nice silky feel. Am chuffed, for £6 or so!

Mac are great. Some are glittery but their website sorts them into finishes.
I buy an empty 4 block palette and replace the one that gets used the most. No wastage.

I agree that MAC counters can be intemidating - too much choice!

Bobbi Brown quite good for this. I loathe shimmer.

I went through the whole of my local Boots looking for mat eyeshadows. I didn't want to pay a lot in case they looked terrible. I ended up with 3 lovely pots from Natural Collection. Some of their colours had shimmer but the ones that looked mat in the shop were still mat when I got them home. They were only a few pounds and are the best I've found for my ageing hooded eyelids.
