Red lipstick if you are "soft" colouring

I had colours done a couple of years ago and it didn't really come to a definitive answer. I am (apparently) able to wear both warm and cool colours, but with advancing years, as I wilt and fade, I am a"soft" rather than anything else.

I would love to wear red lipstick, but those I try just look far to obvious, shocking really. I get comments about malificent lips (not that I have Jolie's pout)

Does anyone have any ideas or should I just stick to nudes etc? Have tried make up counters (Mac, Bobbi brown) and that hasn't produced anything wearable either....

How about something quite sheer, or wearing the red lipstick as a stain?

If you're not used to wearing red lipsticks, it will look very obvious and people will notice red lipstick, especially if they are not used to seeing you wearing it.

I have a Clinique chubby stick in chunky cherry www.clinique.co.uk/product/1605/15520/Makeup/Lipsticks/Chubby-Stick-Moisturizing-Lip-Colour-Balm which is nice and sheerish. Get the SAs to try it on you first.

Bobbi Brown's Cherrywood art stick is a lovely soft dark red that goes on pretty sheer. It looks pretty natural on me while still a bit striking.

hmm i have struggled with this too
last night i wore
lipliner from NYX (817)
a mix of MAC ruby woo as a base (but as i find it very matt and drying)I added on top mac sheen supreme 'new temptation'

I
also love Kate moss rimmell (think it s no 1)

Tom Ford did a limited edition strong red with hot pink undertones which i had and used up and havent found an equal to yet

No.17 do a bunch of very sheer reds in their Mirror Shine line. There's about four or five reds I think, with just a haze of red so they're pretty subtle.

And they're so cheap you could buy all of them and see which suits you best! Grin

Oh and wit regards to Mac, did you see Hot Tahiti? Thats a really office-appropriate subdued red which you'd definately get away with.

Two I find acceptable for work but not over the top are Lipstick Queen Medeival which is a sheer builderble red and Soap and Glory Man Trap which is less sheer but not too in your face

Mac Hot Tahiti is a bit more in the pink range but one I wear often
