How many weeks pregnant were you when you needed maternity clothes?

I'm sure there will be a lot of variation but I'm pregnant with my first and just trying to get an idea.

Thanks

Really varies - I didn't need maternity trousers til at least 20 weeks first time round, but way earlier second time round, as my abdomen had clearly just given up any pretence of staying pulled in. Was in maternity tops/dresses from around 4 months both times as I have a very long torso and even slight embiggening meant normal tops looked weird.

HelenF350 · 24/04/2015 14:41

14 weeks for me, I showed really early though!

CityDweller · 24/04/2015 15:05

20 weeks in my first pregnancy. Much earlier in 2nd.

mowglik · 24/04/2015 16:52

8 weeks into the pregnancy - it was probably mostly bloating but my trousers all felt pretty uncomfortable

Caterina99 · 24/04/2015 17:03

about 20 weeks for trousers, a few extra weeks for tops. And even then I could get away with normal tops if they were longer. This is my first though and I wasn't super skinny to start with (bmi 26) so I own lots of looser tops.

25 weeks with dc1, 20 with dc2.

New bras at 10 weeks.

Maternity clothes at 14 weeks but didn't really need to wear them until about 18 weeks. Wore some non-maternity normal size clothes like maxi dresses right until the end.

Same bmi as caterina.

Superworm · 24/04/2015 18:10

About 8 weeks too...bloating was terrible.

madreloco · 24/04/2015 18:12

Never. Just stretchy yoga pants or tights in a larger size, plus some jeans a size larger than normal I happened to have.

BallroomWithNoBalls · 24/04/2015 18:29

Congratulations!

Depends on your usual style I think. If you wear dresses / tunics and leggings, you can just size up all the way through. Definitely get maternity jeans though - around 18 weeks or so I bought 2 pairs of H and M ones and they have lasted the whole pregnancy (am now 34 wks) and there's something about wearing jeans that makes you feel human. I'm wearing a Tesco fine stripe navy and white t shirt dress (2 sizes bigger than my usual) over non maternity leggings and a non maternity denim jacket today.

My top tip is keep buying bras throughout! Not expensive ones and they don't need to be frumpy ones - underwired t shirt bras or whatever you usually like is fine but they must fit you well. I've bought two bras every 8 weeks or so in this pregnancy.

If you're working and need structured clothes, a bit more difficult.

AnyFucker · 24/04/2015 18:36

everybody is so different

it depends on your style of clothing too

with my first, I was about 26 weeks but leggings were fashionable then

with my second, more like about 22 weeks or so

NoArmaniNoPunani · 24/04/2015 20:38

Thanks for the congratulations. The bra tip is spot on, feel like my boobs have grown already.

I've got a wedding to go to at 18 weeks and I already bought a dress which may not fit now, I'll have to wait and see how much I grow.

I wear scrubs for work so that shouldn't be a problem.
