Evening casual menswear in Saudi

Sparkythepiano · 24/04/2015 06:14

My husband occasionally has short trips to Saudi for work. His wardrobe is apparently lacking in suitable smart casual wear suitable for wearing to a restaurant in the evening. He is tall and in his 40s.

Any suggestions or links to something like M&S website would be great. My plan is to buy maybe 2 outfits for his birthday present.
Thank you.

Shirts and chinos would do the trick

Just don't let him wear shorts or short-sleeved shirts.

Nice blazer

What colours would you suggest? I'm so out of the loop I haven't a clue.

Where is he working? Dhahran and Jeddah far more laid back and relaxed compared to Riyadh. When is he going it can get cold in winter and Jeddah is very humid in summer. Long sleeve shirts and chinos fine even short sleeved shirts are ok outside of Riyadh.

I know they drive across from Bahrain but I'm not sure where else they go. Needs to be suitable for anywhere in the area I guess.

I'm going to look in town tomorrow, is M&S the best place to look, anywhere else I should try?

Arab man uniform is trousers, sensible shoes and a white cotton shirt (or some muted colour), usually with a pen in the front pocket. I lived in the ME for 18 years and have many Arab relatives, so am fairly sure of myself Grin

Jeans and non-tight t-shirts are ok in the daytime btw. He'll see tight t-shirts on younger men but people get all twitchy if expats do it.

This would be fine, for instance. No gaudy prints though.

Also the depiction of the human form is forbidden in Islam, so maybe steer away from any t-shirts with human-type shapes on. This wouldn't be a problem in the Emirates but Saudi is more fussy.

So he is in the Eastern Province if crossing over from Bahrain? Plumpings description is a typical middle aged arab look younger guys are more relaxed with what they wear. I lived in the Middle East for years and know consultants who go out on a regular basis and you can't go wrong with smart(ish) shirt and chinos.

Haha yes ZaraW, I was thinking of my dad!
