I bought a few Mantaray cotton dresses for the warm weather but I have a bit of a tummy and feel I could do with the dresses being lined to give me a smoother feel IYKWIM. Does anyone still wear half slips? I used to in my teens, thirty years ago :0

I do Smile just got 2 for £1.99 in the M&S sale Wink

Behooven · 21/04/2015 22:47

Yep but not half slips, I've got the good old M&S full slips for under dresses. Nude and black, pack of two.

Intimissimi have some nice ones, lace or shapewear

SirVixofVixHall · 21/04/2015 23:16

I wear them. I'm chilly mortal and I also like the smooth line of slips under dresses or skirts. I wear full or half slips. Mine are all vintage but I agree Intimmissi have some lovely lace ones, I am hankering after one myself.

Notagainmun · 22/04/2015 08:01

Ooh! I am going to check out Intimmissi, thanks.

I have mid thigh ones from M and S. A black one and a white one. Invaluable.

TheFairyCaravan · 22/04/2015 08:57

They had some in Matalan the other day.

YawnyMcYawn · 22/04/2015 09:00

I was wearing one yesterday to try to stop the cotton lining on a dress from sticking to my opaque tights. It was only partly successful.

Damnautocorrect · 22/04/2015 09:12

Ohh thank you, I was going to post this as I have a linen maxi dress you can see straight through!

hellsbellsmelons · 22/04/2015 09:17

I have one on now!
Mine came from ebay.

PrimalLass · 22/04/2015 10:53

Primark, about £8. I have one that can either be v-neck or round-neck. It is microfibre and looks fine if it shows at the cleavage (IYSWIM).

pinkelephantnightclub · 22/04/2015 17:52

I'm looking for one that make a knee length skirt puff out- any ideas?

SirVixofVixHall · 22/04/2015 22:22

pink you need a classic 50s half slip with net for that, like this www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MMG-50s-Retro-26-Swing-Vintage-Petticoat-Rockabilly-Tutu-Fancy-Net-Underskirt-/111459908309?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&var=&hash=item19f3873ad5
That is the sort of shape you want. You might need to check the length of whatever one you find against whatever you want to wear it with, vintage ones are usually a bit longer than modern ones.

I used to hate that my mum made me wear a slip under my school skirt Sad

SirVixofVixHall · 23/04/2015 17:18

That made me laugh, as I still have my slips from primary school, and my dds love to wear them. They are nylon (I am 51) but silky, and with a sweet lace trim that my 7 year old really likes!! In fact she likes them so much I'm going to buy some silk and make her little copies of them.
