Are Spanx the best control underwear?

Have a fancy party to go to and have a dress in mind but have a bit of tummy due to operations biscuits which I would like to flatten a little.
Are Spanx the best control underwear (like the look of the long line shorts) or are there any better makes on the market?
Do I just buy my regular size?

The best I've found are the spanx higher power - the ones which are like shorts but also go up to the bottom of your bra. The sizing goes by weight and height - there's a guide on the packet.
