Pashmina for a Wedding Outfit?

polyhymnia · 18/04/2015 19:01

I'm well aware that pashminas have been around for ever and have in fact always turned my nose up at them - for various reasons, including that I don't personally usually like anything 'unstructured' flapping around on me.

But have a wedding in a couple of weeks (not close to families concerned, though my DS is). Really want to 'recycle' a very nice '50s style' print dress I've successfully worn to other weddings, but in high summer. The weather is so unpredictable I'm aware that it could be a lovely day in early May and ideal for a cotton frock - but could equally be chilly.

I really don't want to spend a lot on jackets or on another dress, so am thinking of going for a pashmina. Wouldn't have to wear it at the reception as I'm sure marquee will be well heated

My questions are:

  • would this look hopelessly outdated and frumpy?
  • if I do go for one, I fancy a black one, but with some subtle Swarovski teardrop crystals scattered over it. Is that OK? My dress itself is predominantly purple, with white background and touches of greeny-grey.

Help, please!

Wear also a thi thin vest It's cold in the wind.

I'm sure it'll be fine.

They're completely fine - they're classics now rather than fashionable, but I still use them because they're really handy. Particularly for the vagaries of English weather and travelling.

I don't know if I'd wear black with purple and green-grey, it might kill it.

Perhaps a pale orchid colour

This place is good and it gives you the colour swatches: www.mypashmina.co.uk

Thanks for that. That was the very place I was planning to order from. Presumably you've actually bought from there.

Am now going off black and thinking maybe soft grey. Not orchid as I can't wear pinkish colours. Will get a swatch or two.

Yes I have, they're good quality for the price, and they we're very helpful with colours.

Grey would be nice, that place has a greeny grey one - it's called something like sage grey. The orchid colour I was thinking of is more like a very pale lilac rather than pink, it's on the swatch with the purples.
