Black tie do next month. What do you think of this www.tkmaxx.com/view-all-womenswear/navy-lace-trimmed-evening-dress/invt/53047449 for size 18, 5ft 9 forty year old? Too frumpy?

The problem with this dress is the gathered fabric round the waist. Very unflattering unless you have no tummy at all. I suspect that is why the larger sizes are the ones left.

ginmakesitallok · 18/04/2015 16:51

It's actually quite flattering round my huge tummy! Must go try it on again and double check!

If you like it, buy it. You will go brimming with confidence and have a fab night Smile

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 18/04/2015 17:14

It's not personally to my taste but with the correct accessories. No black dress or I'd go as far as to say no dress is frumpy.

I like it. You will look great

scarletforya · 18/04/2015 21:05

It depends on what your arms are like. That kind of dress tends to make them look sausage-like.

ginmakesitallok · 18/04/2015 21:22

My arms are pretty good, not sausage like! So, how should accessories? I have a nice wee diamond pendant, thinking some longish earrings? What colour shoes? Neutral? Navy? something like this?

skylerwhite1 · 18/04/2015 21:44

Dress is so so, bit plain for a youngin' like yourself - but as Nick Nack said if you like it buy it. You could go wild with accessories njoy

ginmakesitallok · 18/04/2015 21:50

So what accessories should I go wild with??? Young??? Feeling v old and fat, and probably dressing safe and old and fat!

OP posts:
CapnMurica · 18/04/2015 22:08

I like it.

I wouldn't wear a necklace as the bodice has a high neck and detail. I'd choose either gold or silver, wear a chunky bangle or several slim ones and dangly earrings. I'd try and match my shoes with either the dress or accessories - or wear a completely contrasting colour, like yellow or something. Not nude.

How are you going to do your hair?

ginmakesitallok · 18/04/2015 22:13

My hair is cut in a chin length bob, which I can either do curly or straight - not long enough to go up. Think that navy shoes and bag would be too boring?

OP posts:
CapnMurica · 18/04/2015 23:19

No I think that would be fine. I'd do silver accessories I think. And curls. But then I would, I never wear my hair straight lol!

Amethyst24 · 18/04/2015 23:22

Check that your bra won't show at the back - it looks very low.

CurlsLDN · 19/04/2015 09:21

I love it. I'm a size 18 with a mum tum, and I think this would be very Flattering on me.
I'm 28, I don't think it's frumpy at all, it looks v much like something you'd find in warehouse or oasis.
I agree with silver bangles and dangly silver earrings. I'd go for silver shoes and beaded silver clutch too, I think navy shoes and bag would be too dark overall

ginmakesitallok · 19/04/2015 11:01

Bra doesn't show. Now, as time seen any nice silver not to high shoes?

OP posts:
PrimroseEverdeen · 19/04/2015 11:20

I love it! I would wear silver or rose gold accessories and shoes. A nice cuff and no necklace.

Chewbecca · 19/04/2015 11:38

How about these silver, block heel carvela sandals?

KikitheKitKat · 19/04/2015 12:06

The dress is lovely and as it suits your shape you will look great. Curly hair definitely.

123rd · 19/04/2015 14:13

I think the silver shoes that chew found would go better than the earlier green ones. Would you consider a higher thinner heel? I reckon you will look fab!

ginmakesitallok · 19/04/2015 14:13

The carvela sandals are lovely, now if I could just find a pair for around £40!

OP posts:
ginmakesitallok · 19/04/2015 14:16

What about these?

OP posts:
123rd · 19/04/2015 14:24

Yes, v nice. With a great silver cuff to coordinate with the shoes?

burnishedsilver · 19/04/2015 14:25

I like it.

XiCi · 19/04/2015 14:30

Love it, wish they had my size, I'd be ordering one myself
