I'm trying to overhaul my (severely lacking) skincare regime & thanks to advice on here have found Cetaphil cleanser & a hot cloth twice a day has reduced the number of break-puts but now want to introduce something to improve the appearance of my skin.
I've read about the various acids but am unsure which I need or what exactly I'm looking for in the shops! I've got combination skin (oily T-zone with open pores & dry cheeks), get the odd.spot & occasionally those ting hard white lumps - my skin just isn't very smooth or peachy Blush I wear mineral make-up most days.

Any advice? I'm also in need of a decent moisturiser that won't clog my skin but has high SPF as Since I've started cycling a lot more the wind & sun have made my skin worse.

You'll need salicylic acid then, to exfoliate inside the pore. Try one of Paula's Choice's BHA products.

Burt's Bees Clarifying Toner contains 1.0% salicylic acid which might be a good one to start with.

I use Jan Marini Bio-glycolic cleanser and it really is amazing stuff. I never get any breakouts.

For an ultra cheap salicylic acid mask you could apply an aspirin mask to your face.

I like this moisturiser spf 30, pump packaging, doesn't feel heavy or stink of sun cream, under a fiver.

For blackheads you need salicylic acid. The Paula's Choice does last forever so isn't as bad budget wise as it looks - I bought the lotion, used twice a day and it lasted about 8 months! It had an amazing effect on my skin and you need v little.

I also use the salicylic acid from these people : www. sr-skincare.co.uk which I've been v happy with.

High SPF, oil-free sunscreen - I'd go for Sunsense Daily Face. I really liked this and it was also good for the spots.

Lidl do a cleanser with salicyclic acid in it for about £3 - I think it's called 'gentle cleanser' but it's in a white tube with blue writing.

piggychops · 20/04/2015 00:44

Clearasil rapid action pads are 2% salicylic, the deep treatment toner also contains it but I'm not sure of the %.

Kundry · 20/04/2015 07:15

The problem with cleanser with fancy ingredients such as acids is the whole point of cleanser is you wash it off. Those ingredients you've paid for only contact your face for 30 seconds max so don't get a chance to do anything.

piggychops · 20/04/2015 13:15

The rapid action pads don't get rinsed off though, so I guess they have a better chance to work. Also they are only about £4 for 65.

GingerbreadBaubles · 20/04/2015 19:51

For salicylic acid I use Bavura 2% leave on for a few mins then rinse off. I also use Liquid Gold which is glycolic acid. I had nodular/cystic acne for years. I added a double cleanse and the acids to my routine and my skin has never looked so good. I now don't wear foundation at all just a tinted moisturiser

PhoebeMcPeePee · 20/04/2015 21:24

Thanks again everyone. I've ordered the Garnier Pure toner and Olay Total Effects moisturiser & serum duo with spf 15. Going to give it all a couple of weeks to see how I get on before adding a peel (SR range I think)
