Is it a new rule that you HAVE to wear polish on your toenails if you're wearing sandals ? Every single one of my female colleagues has painted feet this week so I thought id consult the experts as I'm getting on a bit and am a bit lazy

Disclaimer: I do make sure they are clean and smooth etc before I inflict them on the general public.

Yes. I don't think my feet are too bad, but they do look better with nail varnish!

I think people are excited because of the warm weather, by August, many people would have lost interest.

FrugalFashionista · 16/04/2015 18:32

I went somewhere a couple a weeks ago where I saw a lot of middle-aged women in sandals. Every single one had blue toenails. That includes me

Minshu · 16/04/2015 18:57

My aunt told me about this rule / law over 20 years ago. Her words come back to me every time I see unprinted toe nails in sandals! Obviously, they are your feet and glad to hear they don't have mud under them when you inflict them on the unsuspecting public Grin

Minshu · 16/04/2015 18:59

BTW mine are currently painted as lady birds as I wanted to practice before trying out my artistry on the tiny toenails of my daughter Grin

SoOverItNow · 16/04/2015 22:58

Oh god I've been deluded that my nice fresh toenails are acceptable !

Ladybirds Shock

What's entry level in the pedicure world?

I couldn't go bare nailed ever !! Must have painted and neat feet at all times !! Hate my toes without colour ... Not had ladybird toes though ! That sounds fab :) blue makes my feet look dead so usually a pale pink !

frankietwospots · 16/04/2015 23:11

Deffo. Wouldn't be seen dead without painted toenails. Even in winter.

Gem124 · 17/04/2015 13:14

Mine are blue & sparkly :-/ I got told they look very 'frozen-esque' but I like it so it's staying!! Definitely should be painted when wearing sandals

Lottapianos · 17/04/2015 13:18

'Wouldn't be seen dead without painted toenails. Even in winter'

Same here but I accept that not everyone is so anal about this kind of stuff Smile

OP, you're fine if toenails are short and clean and feet are also clean and well moisturised. Bare clean toenails are a million times better than painted chipped toenails. I have a colleague whose finger and toe nails are always painted but chipped to buggery and it makes me feel quite sick

Leviticus · 17/04/2015 13:21

Yes you do, sorry (though I'm sure yours are the cleanest, tidiest unpainted ones we've ever seen).

I like red - goes with everything and is classic and I think even quite understated on toes. If you want a nude look you could have a nice pale pink or peach.

whattodoforthebest2 · 17/04/2015 13:26

Yes here too, mine are a deep claret-red and I keep them painted all year round. I had a pedi 2 weeks ago and the varnish lasts 4-6 weeks. The prettiest toenails I've ever seen were a French manicure style with pretty sandals, ie pink with white edges, very neat.

SarahGoodwin33 · 17/04/2015 14:39

i never used to wear polish on my toes but now I am never without it, winter or summer. I went through a little phase of having french painted on but found unless you either pay a fortune or have gel french it looks a bit tatty.
Dark reds in winter and lighter colours in summer is my general rule...
got to have pretty feet, my boyfriend loves feet.....weird!

SoOverItNow · 19/04/2015 21:06

Ok I've gone for it and painted toes and fingers a pale pink. They still look natural but shiny and lovely.

When it wears off I will try a brighter colour. Or do I remove it? How long does it last? It is decades since I painted my nails!

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 19/04/2015 21:42

Oh dear, I wore sandals with no nail polish last week and, if it's warm enough I'll be doing the same again this week! My excuse is I was going to the podiatrist yesterday and couldn't be bothered to paint them for a couple of days. This week's excuse is that I'm having Shellac on my toenails next Monday and it doesn't seem worth painting them for a few days, especially when the weather is cooler! (Nothing to do with being lazy of course!)

A quick question about moisturising feet - am I the only person who can only moisturise my feet at night? If I do it in the morning I slip and slide all over the place!

fiorentina · 19/04/2015 22:04

I don't always wear a very obvious colour but always have a neutral polish on with sandals, so that they look smart.

SoOverItNow · 20/04/2015 17:32

I moisturise at night and wear socks. Then they're lovely when you wake up and not slidey.

Libitina · 20/04/2015 17:37

As a nurse I can't weat nail varnish,so I make sure I always have a nice bright pedicure instead. My toes are currently a 'Cadbury' purple with glitters.

Libitina · 20/04/2015 17:37

Twitchcoco · 20/04/2015 18:05

I never used to paint my toenails but nowadays the joy I get looking down at my fuchsia pink toes is worth any amount of faff..
