I don't wear skirts or dresses much at all, and wasn't planning to start.

(I am however still interested in recommendations for longer shorts, available this year. Size 12 (ish, depending on make). No shorter than a couple of inches above knee. Safari style, perhaps? Do I need to go rugged to Trespass and the like?)

noddy I've got various incarnations of ones that crop at different below knee/calf, and do like them too. But I've been unable to find shorts for a couple of years now as they've all been really short. (Never occurred to me that they'd be mislabelled as culottes).

I agree they're not culottes. Culottes are like a divided skirt. Those are just shorts

auntie I have bad cellulite legs, and about size 12 and got my summer shorts from J Crew. They come in loads of colours. In a chino, and have different lengths depending on how much of your leg you want to show.

Sadly this year, I don't fit them...... Curses... but I will again soon!

ahem, as for culottes I remember being forced to wear them as a child in the 70s early 80s, and had a woollen pair. I was so happy with the dog when she chewed a hole in them. Alas my cunning mother had them repaired.

Those Boden monstrosities should be styled with white socks, lentil-weaver sandals and a bum bag. They are American Touristwear for all bar the very young and slim.

God, those Boden things are hideous. They look like something a nun might wear on holiday.

They have a lot of questionable/downright vile stuff at the moment. Though their normal shorts-shaped shorts (can't remember whether it's the chino or "bistro" ones I have) are actually really nice.
