Had my first " your skin looks amazing" comment-- THANK YOU Caroline Hirons!

A colleague said this at work today, I was so chuffed.
I'm 47 and was looking not so good. This last month I have invested in serums, acids and what not have gone back to Caroline Hirons properly this time. I have been religiously cleaning and tending to my face AM and PM. I use a 30% glycol peel every couple of weeks and use tretinoin every 3 days.
I must say even I have noticed a difference, it has knocked years off me.
All blemishes gone, skin is ultra smooth, wrinkles reduced.
There is hope for us more (ahem) mature ladies!

TK maxx often has cheap vit c and Hyluronic acid serums in

bigbuttons · 24/04/2015 06:53

kundry come over to the dark side and make your own c serum. You won't get cheaper than that. You can buy strips to check the ph I you're concerned. I have just ordered some more ascorbic acid.

So I'm waiting for the retin a to arrive. ..just wondering is it a good idea to mix a little in with my moisturiser at first to get my skin a bit more used to it. I'm quite concerned about the peeling and what I'll look like when I have to go out and put make up on!

Sallystyle · 24/04/2015 08:03

Tk maxx have loads of oils, creams and serums on their website. I should not have looked!! My poor bank.

Kundry · 24/04/2015 08:05

I've peeled a bit but not much and not so anyone else has noticed. 0.025% once, leave it a couple of days, if OK do it again, first sign of any peeling stop until it's healed and start again. Only go more frequent when you are happy.

If you are peeling sheets of skin off you have done it wrong Grin

Also you need the smallest of pea sized amounts and wait 30 min after cleansing etc and apply to dry skin which will help stop irritation.

Kundry · 24/04/2015 08:06

I know - the TK Maxx tip off is amazing!

Germgirl · 24/04/2015 08:14

I've ordered the 0.025% & I'm equally excited & worried.
My face went all bumpy & sore when I tried to use LG every other night so I dropped it back to twice a week. Should I stop the LG once I'm using the retinol?
I have a few wrinkles, a few spots, generally dull & dehydrated skin, although it's getting better.
I'm going to have weight loss surgery next month & hope to lose a lot of weight in a short time.
My face is going to suffer & I want to make sure my skin is in decent nick to hopefully minimize the inevitable wrinkling & sagging. Is there anything else I can do?

EuphemiaCoxton · 24/04/2015 08:23

Oh dear.
I don't think my face likes pixi glow tonic.
I used it for the first time last night and it stung like crazy. My cheeks went bright red and my face felt as though it was on fire all night. It still feels hot and a bit burnt
It must be something in it allergic to, I've used 10% percentage glycolic wash off masks before with no issues.
When I was prescribed 0.1% retin a I got no side effects at all.
Pixi glow is horrid stuff for me

Kundry · 24/04/2015 08:28

Oh dear! I think it's supposed to tingle a bit but not all night! Shock

It may not be the acid you've been fine with it before as googling it has a lot of ingredients, some of which like witch hazel are known irritants which aren't really doing anything for your skin Sad Hope your face feels better soon.

Tanaqui · 24/04/2015 08:44

Thanks kundry- any recs for a not cheap vit c serum then?!

I don't think I'm brave enough to make my own buttons!

cathyandclaire · 24/04/2015 09:05

Thanks for the Hot and Flashy rec Kundry she looks amazing, even if she has botox and fillers she's very straight and honest about it all tempted to fly out to the states and see her doctor. I thought her video on was really helpful.

I've had Retin A and Roaccutane for acne, so I know I tolerate them unbelievably well and hardly peeled at all, so I got a stronger strength but I think I may follow her general guidance.

First application last night.

MrsDesperado · 24/04/2015 09:09

Does anyone have an opinion on which is the better out of Pixiglow or LG for pigmentation/I never skin tone? they do the same thing, don't they?

That 0.025% retin a that frowns linked to has sold out!

MrsDesperado · 24/04/2015 09:10

*uneven

CityDweller · 24/04/2015 09:12

I love this thread! It came at such a good time as I was anyway revamping my skincare this week. Tired, spotty, red, dry skin - being pregnant has made my skin really shit this time.

I've seen real improvements! I've been double cleansing for a while, only thing I've added this week is the lush Merumaya Iconic Youth Serum. I think it's hyualanic (sp?) acid in it. Anyway - ski much clearer. Bought their peel, which I'll try after the weekend. And got a bunch of other stuff coming in the post - can't wait for the FAB pads to arrive as the RENClarimatte I've been using for a while now doesn't seem to do much (interested to read CH doesn't rate it anymore).

EuphemiaCoxton · 24/04/2015 09:48

I think this thread has caused a world shortage of 0.025% retin a! They're out of stock at inhousepharmacy too.

cathyandclaire · 24/04/2015 10:18

Lol at Mumsnetters grabbing all the Retin-A

Just used the Hydraluron on damp skin ( thanks so much for that tip ) and it feels much better, not tight at all. I think I'll be able to finish the tube now.

FrownsAndDimples · 24/04/2015 12:07

Omg you're right. Haha power of mumsnet. I see they've relisted it as a pre-order. I may need to stock up. I go through quite a bit of it since I've upped to daily application. A world without 0.025 is a dark place! I find this one spreads easily unlike the few I brought back from our hols in Thailand. I couldn't understand for the life of me how I was meant to make a pea sized amount cover my entire face. I thought people must have pixie faces. This one spreads like a dream.

SomeSortOfDeliciousBiscuit · 24/04/2015 12:48

This thread is brilliant. Grin

Can I ask advice, please?

I have adult acne and I'm also pregnant, so I'm limited to what I can use. I've been oil cleansing for a while with a mix of castor and jojoba oil, which has been very good for my skin and reduced breakouts and scarring. I have a lot of open and congested pore across my cheeks and lots of red marks. I'm still getting breakouts along my neck and jawline, deep spots.

These are the products I have and want to use, but I'm not sure in which order, or whether they should be morning or evening. Can you help me with a routine please?

Cetaphil cleanser, bought today.
La Posey Effaclar Duo Plus.
Aldi's Lacura serum, the Q10 one. I like it but might upgrade eventually.
Oil cleanse with jojoba and castor oil.

No moisturiser, but I'll use a drop or two of jojoba if I feel my skin needs it. The serum is usually enough.

I also have a DermaFlannel, a lot of muslins and flannels, and a Luna Mini facial brush.

SomeSortOfDeliciousBiscuit · 24/04/2015 12:51

I also have some salicylic acid pads and I'm happy to use those they'll help, now I'm past twelve weeks, but nothing stronger.

Machin · 24/04/2015 12:58

I bought some some Vit C, retinol, niacin and salicyclic acid serum as a first step and after just two days, have very slight footner-peel effect on face and much much glowier skin emerging! This is quite exciting :-)

FrownsAndDimples · 24/04/2015 13:17

machin woot woot!

delicious kundry is best for this sort of thing. I'm sure she'll be along shortly.

DrankSangriaInThePark · 24/04/2015 13:22

Ooooh, we're like Delia and the worldwide shortage of omelette pans!
