Had my first " your skin looks amazing" comment-- THANK YOU Caroline Hirons!

A colleague said this at work today, I was so chuffed.
I'm 47 and was looking not so good. This last month I have invested in serums, acids and what not have gone back to Caroline Hirons properly this time. I have been religiously cleaning and tending to my face AM and PM. I use a 30% glycol peel every couple of weeks and use tretinoin every 3 days.
I must say even I have noticed a difference, it has knocked years off me.
All blemishes gone, skin is ultra smooth, wrinkles reduced.
There is hope for us more (ahem) mature ladies!

I've ordered the Paula's Choice clinical 1% retinol. .It was the sample size as the full size one was hugely expensive although the 5ml sample wasn't cheap either. ..so when it comes I'm going to try it out and hope my face doesn't peel off Grin

TheBlackRider Retinol and glycolic are safe to use together, so it's just about seeing how your skin reacts, really, as could be a bit drying.

Nabootique · 22/04/2015 11:31

Would also depend on the product strength as well.

LatinForTelly · 22/04/2015 11:35

Thanks for all the oil / serum info, folks. The only oil I have is the L'Oreal amazing facial oil - bought some time ago. I haven't used it regularly enough to notice what it does really for my skin.

I like the idea of the NY frankincense stuff ... when my wallet has recovered from the latest splurge! I agree their products are great for the price.

squoosh · 22/04/2015 11:36

I feel your pain Nabootique, You wake up and think 'oooops I spent how much!'. I find the pain is eased by knowing some lovely things are winging your way in the post!

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 22/04/2015 11:46

YY squoosh to the drunken purchases. The Sunday Riley blue oil (can't remember the name, is it Luna?) looks great, is supposed to be v active and gets v good reviews but given that I don't really like oils and it's £££, I'm reluctant. Plus I've got shed loads of other stuff in the drawer to get through first. Also like the look of Good Genes, the lactic acid serum/peel thing.

You're prob right about the siliconey serums with oils, squoosh. I try to avoid silicones or at least see that they are low on the ingredients list as I find siliconey textures a bit strange (which is I wasn't a fan of hydraluron, it just felt like a layer on my skin).

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 22/04/2015 11:49

Though weirdly, hydraluron doesn't have silicones, according to boots !

CremeDeSudo · 22/04/2015 13:43

I'm also interested to hear thoughts on the OZ Naturals range - they all seem to have excellent reviews on Amazon and several of their products have 'Number 1 bestseller' on it..

www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=OZ%20Naturals

Twitchcoco · 22/04/2015 13:48

Silicones aren't occlusive, they're like teabags.

DrankSangriaInThePark · 22/04/2015 13:58

The best facial oil according to the Anti-Ageing beauty bible (which I also got addicted to....) is Nude (the one Bono's missis has something to do with) Not tried it though.

I don't have a drunken horde of products...I have a 10% off horde of products. I am a bloody seller's wet dream. I only have to see % off and my credit card leaps into my hands.

I was reading some old S/B threads last night (I was ordering the face wash for dd from Feel Unique and lobbed a few lip balms in) Interesting to read that Carmex (the HG of lipbalms IMO and cheap as chips) has SA in, which is why (apparently) it's so good. Because it moisturises and exfoliates. Who knew?

Re: silicones. Beware the NY Frankincense intense serum. Sad So disappointed. Just couldn't use it, and still have some sachets lying round. So silicony it just made my skin roll off.

Sallystyle · 22/04/2015 14:55

I have another question. My computer is being fixed so find it hard to read the blog on my phone screen.

For the PM routine I have aldi H2O serum, a Loreal serum which is for mature skin and aldi night cream. Would I use both the serum and night cream or just the serum?

My plan was

Double cleanse
Toner
Serum
Alsi Night cream OR Loreal serum

Liquid gold twice a week

DrankSangriaInThePark · 22/04/2015 15:02

I definitely need a moisturiser as well as a serum. My skin is dry and I'm 49, I suppose it depends on your skin type.

Nabootique · 22/04/2015 15:04

U2 I would use the night cream as your moisturiser, so last like you've said, and one of the serums at the serum stage. I haven't used either of those serums but unless they are particularly moisturising I reckon a night cream needs to go over the top.

Liquid Gold twice a week should be fine. Goes on at the toner stage then don't put anything else on for an intensive treatment. Sometimes I put it on early in the evening, let it do it's thing and then put a bit of oil on before bed though.

EuphemiaCoxton · 22/04/2015 15:19

Thanks to this thread I've gone from having soap and e45 by the sink to having an entire shelf in the bathroom.... and I've still got pixi glow stuff to arrive

kewtogetin · 22/04/2015 15:26

I seem to be going through a bit of a skincare crisis recently so I'm reading with interest. I'm late (ahem) 30's and something of a products whore, but had sworn loyalty to eve lom. However it seems to be irritating my skin recently, not just that but I have developed 2 quite red angry patches above my top lip, one on each side about an inch in size. So I'm using eve lom, trilogy antioxidant oil, serum and moisturiser like a good girl should and then having to hide my angry patchy face under a mudslide of makeup so something has to change!
Just had a look at the sr skincare website but am a little bewildered/scared to use a peel. Has anyone had any good results with them? Or should I go for the liquid gold? I've rather annoyingly just opened a new tub of eve lom cleansing balm but I'm thinking of switching to cetaphil instead after reading this thread......

Sallystyle · 22/04/2015 15:49

Thank you :)

Nabootique · 22/04/2015 16:02

kew are you sure it's the Eve Lom causing the reaction, not one of your other products? If you have angry red patches I don't think it's the best time to use a peel, you need to soothe your skin. A bland cleanser like Cetaphil could be just the thing, and I hear Serozinc toner is good for redness. Steer clear of essential oils for now. What other products are you using specifically?

bigbuttons · 22/04/2015 16:12

squoosh coconut oil isn't good for the face for most peeps. It's fab for the hair and body and I have giant tubs of the stuff that I use for cooking. I think some people think the CO must be blanket good. It is very pore blocking though and will cause spots.

I tend to moisturise with oils rather than moisturisers. Most of them have so many chemicals in them. I bought a soap and glory one to add to my routine and something in it stings and burns my face like crazy.

Most of the uber expensive oils are in fact dead cheap to make yourself .

I said earlier up thread that I make my own vit c serum. The most basic way to make your own serum is to buy some l-ascoric acid, mix with water and splash on your face in the mornings. Stings a tad but you can bet that it's much more potent than most of the stuff you can buy.it oxidises very quickly.bewarevof any serums that are a yellow/orange colour;they need to be binned.
Seriously make your own. It works!
Don't use it with retin A though. Vit c in mornings retinA in evenings.

MrsDesperado · 22/04/2015 16:26

What does the vit c serum do bigbuttons?
(Sorry if I've missed it upthread)

FrownsAndDimples · 22/04/2015 16:35

Another one who makes my own vit c serum. I make enough for a week, doesn't oxidise.

That plus retin a has been the business for me. Best skin I've had ever.

Twitchcoco · 22/04/2015 16:38

Skincare is the most frustrating thing ever isn't it? There just isn't a one size fits all remedy. Clarins blue orchid oil brought me out in huge angry lumps after one night and hydraluron dries out my skin.

The amount of money i spend on finding just the right thing is mind boggling! I'm starting to realise the less I put on it, the happier my temperamental skin is.
