Dry nails splitting.

Despite using nail and hand cream, my nails are dry and ridged. They also regularly split down the side, into the quick. Has anyone any suggestions as to what I can use, especially with regards to the splitting? TIA.

Ouch, sounds nasty. I use marvala nail hardener after seeing it recommended on here, you can get it on amazon. It's made my nails much stronger. Also maybe try a cuticle oil/balm (burts bees do a lovely smelling balm) and a strengthening base coat?

Might sound silly but since I significantly increased the amount of fish in my diet, my nails have never looked healthier. They used to break and scale all the time, it was horrid. I have smoked salmon trimmings on toast for breakfast about 5 times a week and I swear that's what's made the difference!

Rub good old Vaseline into your nails and cuticles whenever you remember throughout the day but especially before bed. Fantastic simple remedy and better than any cream or balm I've used.

Could you have an iron deficiency? May be worth getting that checked out with GP and looking at your diet. I used to have one nail that always split and it was painful. I found a combination of improved diet, OPI nail envy and lots of nail oil (I like OPI Avoplex) sorted it out.
