What are the best inexpensive lipsticks?

I am pretty unadventurous with make up. When I find something I like I stick with it. My favourite lipstick - Gosh - has been discontinued and I'm on the hunt for a replacement. I don't want to spend much more than £10. What should I be looking at?

Revlon is well known for great quality of their lip product. On the other hand, the eyeshadows are best to avoid...

Rohey · 13/04/2015 21:35

Loving the soap & glory lipsticks... Very lush ...

BeeRayKay · 13/04/2015 21:35

MUA from superdrug are fabulous and only £1 each. Avon ones taste nasty. No7 are nicely pigmented.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 13/04/2015 21:35

I really like the Soap and Glory ones - think they are £9. PerfectDay and Man Trap both excellent.

But I just bought a v nice one from MUA for £1. Think it was shade 7.

avocadotoast · 13/04/2015 21:40

The Rimmel Kate Moss range is great. Excellent staying power.

Shonajay · 13/04/2015 22:15

MUA in bare is my fave at the moment, and rimmel chubby sticks on eBay are cheap and really moisturising.

GinBunny · 13/04/2015 23:25

£1 you say...?
Haven't heard of Soap and Glory though, where are they sold?
Great, thanks for the suggestions, will go on a hunt tomorrow Thanks

My favourite at the moment is a Revlon lip butter

coffeenut · 14/04/2015 01:15

revlon matte balms (the chubby crayons)
NYX have some great ones too.

StatisticallyChallenged · 14/04/2015 09:19

The various revlon chubby crayons -there's matte, lacquer and balm I think -are all pretty good and were on 3 for 2 in boots

NonDom · 14/04/2015 09:20

Soap & Glory is sold exclusively in Boots

lavendersun · 14/04/2015 09:24

Not a lipstick really I suppose but I wear the Korres Mandarin lip butter sticks. They have a surprising amount of colour in them and give the sort of look I want, which is quite light and semi glossy I suppose.

They are £8 in Waitrose, being able to buy one on the food shop is a win win for me!

Yonkersdoodle · 14/04/2015 10:30

Soap and Glory Man Trap and Perfect Day are the only lipsticks I've ever repurchased in my life, and for me, they're way better than some that cost over twice as much.

zipzap · 14/04/2015 10:30

Mua chubby crayon lipsticks - sorry, can't think of their real name - £3 from superdrug (and often on offer)

Really long lasting, nice and moisturising, nice colours - there aren't lots but the ones they have are good. And they taste minty.

I have a favourite nude/pinky one and a jolly coral/orange one that I have in my handbag and then a second set at home because they're cheap enough to have more than one of your favourites and have them to hand to make life easier Grin

McFox · 14/04/2015 10:32

I love the MUA lipsticks and crayons too. My friend who's a make up artist uses them in her kit, so that's a good endorsement Smile

FelixFelix · 14/04/2015 10:41

Ooh I didn't know about MUA lipsticks! I have their version of the Urban Decay Naked palette (which cost me about £4) and it is amazing. Such good quality for the price. Has anyone tried anything else from the range?

puffinface · 14/04/2015 10:55

Soap and glory the missing pink is my perfect nude lipstick, and it smells like chocolate- bonus!

zipzap · 14/04/2015 10:56

I also use their eyeliners which aren't too bad and they come with a built in sharpener in the lid which is really handy.

Again they're cheap (£1? £2?) enough that you can have them in more than one place and even leave a spare in the car for emergencies which is great.

Mua often have offers on and last christmas it was something like spend £8 and get a free big eyeshadow palette - not the urban decay copy but another one that had some nice looking colours and was worth about £8 - so keep an eye out next Christmas!

avocadotoast · 14/04/2015 13:44

If anyone has recently gone off Lime Crime, MUA do a really good dupe of their velvet lipsticks. They're called velvet luxe or something and they're about £3 Smile

mrsmeerkat · 14/04/2015 13:46

I love Catrice lip tint.

Bazza2 · 14/04/2015 13:49

I love Topshop's 'Hazard' lipstick. It's the most perfect red and it's £8. Lasts well and I get asked about it all the time.

GinBunny · 15/04/2015 14:17

Thanks for the replies. I went for a Rimmel one and Revlon in the end. The Revlon one is lovely, although it's red it's very light and looks quite natural. The Rimmel one is awful! It's really heavily coloured and doesn't suit me at all! Exactly why I don't want to spend too much money!
I'll try MUA next time I am in Superdrug.

The MUA lipsticks are good, as suggested. I got a matte one and a normal one. The matte one I don't rate as much as for someone with fairly dry ish lips, it doesn't sit well. I think they were only £1 each!

I seen that someone suggested the Soap & Glory lipstick so I've just had a look on the boots website and it has 5 star reviews! I'll be looking at them myself.

zipzap · 15/04/2015 21:41

The other place to have a look is in poundland (and I think some of the other poundland-type stores) - they often have make up in. I've bought decent brands - Calvin Klein, L'Oreal, Revlon, Stila, Rimmel, Sally Hansen, and more - all for just a pound each. Most of the things I've had have been great. The good stuff does tend to sell out when it comes in though - it's not like Boots etc where if you go back next week, chances are they'll have the same stuff in as they did. If you see something you like the look of - get it. Don't wait and go back a day or a week later as chances are that it will have sold out (although sod's law being what it is, obviously if you do buy it then they probably won't have sold out unless you want to get some more!).

There are two poundlands near where I live - the one in the centre has make up. The other one is new and out of town - and it doesn't, it just does nail varnish although the lady stocking the shelves said they were hoping to get their store designated to have make up too.

avocadotoast · 15/04/2015 22:18

Ahh sorry to hear that OP. That's why I like the Rimmel ones, I can't be doing with neutral/non-bold lipsticks! Different strokes though eh.
