Just found these Earl jeans in a drawer and heard flares are back. I can't work out if these are flares or bootcuts though, any jeans experts out there?

Bootcuts are flares...

The flares this season range from bootcut (ie small flare) to bell bottoms...

dexter73 · 13/04/2015 11:43

I would say they are a bootcut rather than a flare as they aren't very flary.

Psipsina · 13/04/2015 11:47

Boot cut. Does it matter what's in? If you like them, wear them.

Twinklestein · 13/04/2015 12:32

There are jeans around at the moment with small flares like that. Checkout any of the designer jean brands and you'll see what I mean.

PetiteBateau · 13/04/2015 13:09

They look like boot cut

noddyholder · 13/04/2015 13:11

Bootcut I have an old pair of bootcuts on today am surprised how nice they are!

Floisme · 13/04/2015 13:13

They all look the same to me. I think they're just calling them 'flares' to trick us into thinking our old bootcuts won't cut it so we need to buy again.

noddyholder · 13/04/2015 13:19

I have flares they are flappier Grin I have had them since last time round so no extra £ out of me

Floisme · 13/04/2015 13:23

'Flares are flappier' - I can cope with that Grin It's when people start measuring hem width and precisely where on the leg they should get narrower that I lose the plot.

All I know is that my old 'Citizens' (£5.00 from a jumble sale some time around the turn of the century) still look fantastic, if I do say so myself.

Fairylea · 13/04/2015 13:25

There are all kinds of jeans in the shops now. Boot cuts and flares are both "in". They look great, nice length and fit well. Just wear them :)

ephemeralfairy · 13/04/2015 13:26

The current breed of flare are indeed flapper. More of a 70s vibe that you need to wear heels with or you will scoop up detritus from the pavement...

bigTillyMint · 13/04/2015 13:29

Fairylea, I like your postSmile

Notfootball · 13/04/2015 17:11

Blush that mirror is dirty.

Thanks for your replies, I'll wear them. What shoes as they're not long enough to cover heels?

FrugalFashionista · 13/04/2015 17:24

Bootcut. But a nice long lean shape, they look quite flattering on you. I'd definitely wear them. This would be your not to flares without actually having to wear them Wink I've been in flares most of the day and I love them but their flappiness makes them quite impractical - I had to change when I started doing my toenails.

XiCi · 13/04/2015 18:09

They are what I'd describe as a slim bootcut.
The flares that are around are much wider at the bottom
Those bootcuts look fab on you

Notfootball · 13/04/2015 22:44

Wow, thanks Frugal and XiCi.

I think flares are more straight not tight to your thighs, so bootcut. I love flares but they are too 'in' at the moment so I feel like I'm in fancy dress!

Itsalldramarama · 14/04/2015 07:54

I'd say boot cut too :) and they look really good on you and flattering . Wish I'd kept all my top shop boot cut ones now :( think I must invest in some !

Twinklestein · 14/04/2015 10:30

It's bollocks that all the flares around now are flappier, some are and some aren't. You notice the flappy ones because they're more of a statement.

If you look on designer jeans websites, and around London, there are all flares of all sizes.

burnishedsilver · 14/04/2015 10:59

Much of what's in the shops labeled as flares at the moment are really bootcuts.

SpecificOcean · 14/04/2015 11:14

Bootcut and they fit well on you.
I wear my lovely bootcuts as well as other styles cus they look good on me. Sod what's in.
I class flares when you can't see feet.
