We need to make a few cutbacks here. DD and myself both have long hair, so just wondering if anyone can recommend any good cheap or shop brand shampoos and conditioners. At the moment we mainly use Herbel Essences.

Avoid the Tesco version of herbal essences I think it's crap. Alberto Balsam is fairly good especially the coconut ones. I normally buy the 900ml Tresemme shampoo and conditioner when it's half price as it works out cheaper

Lardylassnomore · 12/04/2015 13:54

Superdrwww.superdrug.com/b/Herbal%20Essences ug has herbal essences on offer at the moment. Coul you afford to bulk buy?

Alternatively check out home bargains

Waitrose essentials shampoo and conditioner is excellent.

hettie · 12/04/2015 13:58

Pound shops have gliss shampoo which is good...

I would think of buying a lush shampoo bar. Might be slightly more expensive but lasts for ages.

DiDiddlyIDi · 12/04/2015 14:02

Argan Oil shampoo and they do an intensive conditioner too, from pound land and b and m. Comes in a brown and green bottle. When I emigrated I bought 20 bottles of each I love it that much!!!

TranquilityofSolitude · 12/04/2015 14:03

Do you have a Savers near you? They often have cheap branded shampoos- our local one has Naked shampoos and conditioners for £1 at the moment.

VeganCow · 12/04/2015 14:03

I buy the Daily Defense Argan Oil shampoo and conditioner from B&M at a quid each. Its reallly good and happens to be cruelty free too. Its made in Canada, not China like most cheaper hair care these days.

I'm currently using the Alberto balsam ones (purple-some kind of berry) and agree about the treseme ones. Every so often, I put Tesco 'pro' hair mask on. It's in a gold tub and is £2. That's really good and I also go to savers and buy 'gumtree' for £1. Also in a tub. White with a green lid. It's not as good as pro but you get loads and it is good.

Saurus72 · 12/04/2015 15:17

Superdrug own-brand coconut shampoo and conditioner. Comes in massive bottles, is about £2 and often on 3 for 2 offers. And cruelty free. Brilliant.

unaddfwyn · 12/04/2015 15:31

I like the purple Supersoft conditioner which I get from the pound shop. No silicones in it.

LongDistanceLove · 12/04/2015 15:34

I use Alberto Balsam blueberry shampoo and conditioner. Leaves my hair clean, no residue and smells nice too. £1 each.

XiCi · 12/04/2015 15:36

You need to get yourself to a Home Bargains. They have a wide range of shampoos and conditioners at incredibly cheap prices.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 12/04/2015 15:45

One of the best ways to cut the £ in shampoo is to buy the litre / 500ml bottles with a pump, then only use one pump instead of the huge amount that you generously pour from a bottle.

Sainsburys own brand have a really lovely apple shampoo and conditioner in a pump bottle. Also TeaTree or coconut.

I bought some Henera (blast from the 80s alert) shampoo and conditioner for £1 each from Savers. Worth a look.

KateSpade · 12/04/2015 17:09

Boots own brand deep cleanse shampoo, it's amazing! Though not an everyday shampoo, works so good for a weekly deep clean.

thebeesankles · 12/04/2015 17:18

My hair is down to beyond my waist and I have tried every shampoo going. The best for my hair by far is the Asda smart price shampoo. I can't believe its so cheap because it leaves my hair lovely and clean, shiny and manageable. I don't even need conditioner. Just a little hair oil on the ends and voila.

Leviticus · 12/04/2015 17:22

Alberto Balsam here as well. I use it because it's good on my long, fine hair, not particularly because it's cheap. The blueberry one is the best but I also buy the raspberry one.

forgivenminds · 12/04/2015 18:56

Thoose who have used Sainsburys own 1l bottle which would you recomend more apple or coconut

Madmog · 13/04/2015 10:56

Thank you everyone. I will make a list and see what I can get when I'm out. Even if something is right for one of us, hopefully the other will be able to use it instead.

I've just started using Aldi's herbal essence copy (the blue one) it's very good.

cruikshank · 13/04/2015 11:06

Does no-one else find the Alberto Balsam and Tresemme conditioners just too watery? I think they have a much higher water content than premium brands - the latter ime you can get away with using less of because they are more creamy/mask-like.
