Boyfriend jeans

For years I have worn skinny jeans and been ok with them in spite of the fact I have very thick chunky thighs and manly lower legs (hot). I'd kill with my bare hands for the lovely shapely skinny legs you've probably all got. Sad

Now the weather is warming a little and we have been having a break from 5:2 diet, I seem to have put on a bit of weight. I don't know why because I've cut out sweets and don't really have cake but any weight I gain seems to go straight to my legs.
So I decided after feeling like a sausage bursting out of its skin in my skinny jeans that I would try boyfriend jeans.
But I'm struggling to find them! Are they not a thing any more?
I found some size 12 'slim boyfriend' in Primark today and got them home and they are like fucking skinny jeans on me!!! Blush
I'm a size 12 in my other jeans at the moment so I don't understand.

Can you recommend me some nice boyfriend jeans?
What should they look like and what footwear should I wear with them?
Are they not 'in' any more?

Don't know much about them, except that TopShop have them

topshop boyfriend jeans

Looking at the models, ripped knees and rolled up bottoms seem to be the thing. Footwear varies Smile

I got some nice ones from M&S the other week.

Lots on asos! :)

Just bought girlfriend ones from
Gap (after years in skinnies)... Really like them. (No rips). I wear them rolled up a bit with converse on sandals. Will not be wearing them if it's not warm enough to roll them up!!

mowglik · 11/04/2015 21:22

i got a couple of pairs from mint velvet and a couple from levis, i like the distressed aged effect but not the knee slits! No one needs to see my hairy knees..

If its any consolation I think slim boyfriends are like loose skinnies

I also have the Gap girlfriend. Boyfriend jeans are looser/baggies than girlfriend.
I too had them rolled up, wore them none stop over mid term. So comfy!

Shitmyhairdressersays · 11/04/2015 21:33

I don't really want rips (I'm 43 this year and think I would be pushing it in ripped jeans)
I think after todays disaster I will need to try some on. I miss the baggy jeans of my younger days (come back 90s!) things were simpler then.
I want to roll these up too Jump what footwear did you wear them with?
Would you wear them with patent pumps?
I thought H & M would have some (they have always been my go-to) but they seem to stock 'Mom' jeans which horrified me. I know I am a mum I don't always want to dress like one thanks!

Gap 'sexy boyfriend' jeans. I tried loads before I got these (online; they never have them in the shops) and they are fab. No knee rips either.

Don't touch the Next ones. They are horrific. When they arrived, having been ordered from the website, they were labelled 'tapered' rather than 'boyfriend' and looked as if they had been in the warehouse since 1989 waiting to be passed off as something else!

hauntedhenry · 12/04/2015 08:52

Slimmer ones are more flattering on me (the girlfriend style that people have been mentioning). Boyfriend jeans just seem to make me look fat Confused

PetShopGirl · 12/04/2015 09:01

I got some in Sainsburys recently, not to blow too much money on what was a boyfriend jeans experiment. Think they were £16. Anyway, I love them (I got the darker wash of the two) and will be getting another pair next time I'm in there.

I've been wearing them rolled up with white Superga's.

dancemom · 12/04/2015 09:03

When did boyfriend jeans become rolled up, ripped and slim cut?

Boyfriend jeans used to be loose fit, straight from the hip down and there was no rips or rolling up!

What are these type called now?

I don't want jeans that stretch, no elastane or Lycra! I don't want one that hug my thighs!

burnishedsilver · 12/04/2015 09:31

I'm in my 40s too.
I've tried on a lot of boyfriend jeans and look hilariously bad in them. The whole low crotch thing doesn't work and they made me look much bigger than I am. Gap Girlfriend jeans are my new favourites.

123Jump · 12/04/2015 12:05

Boyfriend jeans are a looser fit. Not all of them have rips, the style is to wear them rolled up atm.
I've been wearing mine with Superga and Havianas.

Shitmyhairdressersays · 12/04/2015 12:25

I have had a look at the Gap site but they don't have the darker ones I want in my size Angry
Do they really only do them online or would a store have them?

BeginnerSAHM · 12/04/2015 12:48

Yup, they do have them in store. Likewise, I wear with converse or flip flops/flat sandals. Great on a day like today!

VeganCow · 12/04/2015 14:17

These are nice - Asda as well as these Matalan

the last ones are straight leg but a lot looser than most straight leg, in fact you may need to go down a size as they are big sizing, reviews say the same as well.
