Is there a colour of bag that goes with everything?

I'm looking for a bag that goes with most things in.my wardrobe. I am currently in the process of loosing weight and am trying to make do with the clothes I already have that fit and as a result have a rather odd colour mix Blush I'm wearing lots of blue denim/navy/black/ brown and my current jacket is grey!
Is there a bag that will go with everything I wear? I'm hopeless at changing my bag depending on my outfit and as a result feel very un put together!
Was thinking maybe a nude kind of colour or grey or tan? Budget is as small as possible ideally under £40 but it must be on the roomy side as I have small dcs. Not too worried about longevity. TIA

I think that Tan goes with everything but a statement-y colour does too. I've just bought a red bag very similar to this www.tkmaxx.com/view-all-womens-new-in/brown-shoulder-bag/invt/11410682 and surprisingly found that it pretty much goes with everything I wear. I've hardly changed it since I bought it!

Oasis have some nice big bags at the moment in lots of colours. I think tan or grey go with pretty much everything.

My current bag is burnt orange and it surprisingly looks ok with most colours.

mowglik · 11/04/2015 11:48

I would get a tan or grey bag and a statement colour bag for summer months, start with a tan bag I would say at leasts it's brighter than grey

mimiasovitch · 11/04/2015 12:19

Surely it depends on your general wardrobe colour scheme. For me it's red. Complements everything I wear. Sounds like it would you too, though maybe not so much with the brown.

Gem124 · 11/04/2015 12:22

I'd definitely go grey, can't go wrong!

ColdCottage · 11/04/2015 12:24

Agree, tan (remember to spray with protector) or a dark brown/black.

I would agree about grey/tan/orange, and also coral for Spring/Summer. I can only really thnk of green/turquoise that it wouldn't go with. Jaeger has a lovely coral handbag that has just been reduced in the sale and that I really love (can't justify it sadly, but take a look it's gorgeous). Sorry, can't link as iPad is misbehaving.

Now I hadn't thought of coral or red but one of those just might work, thanks!! Love the jaegar one but a little out of my price range Envy

I wouldn't say grey, surprised at that - I would say probably a dark brown leather. Natural not dyed iyswim.

Karbea · 11/04/2015 15:48

I would say red or orange.

CoconutAmericano · 11/04/2015 15:54

Grey or tan

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 11/04/2015 15:57

Grey doesn't go with brown clothes, surely?

ClaudetteWyms · 11/04/2015 15:58

Red, or yellow

Everythingsgonegreen · 11/04/2015 16:12

John Lewis have a lovely slouchy silvery/bronzey metallic bag just now for about £60 -think it could be my summer go with everything bag.

FrugalFashionista · 11/04/2015 16:19

Taupe. I've had taupe everyday bags for a couple of years and have worn little else.

Saurus72 · 11/04/2015 16:21

I think taupe would definitely look better with black clothes than a tan or brown bag.

Momagain1 · 11/04/2015 16:32

I have a dark brown bag. Whether or not it goes with vatious outfits matters less than if it looks nice with my coats, which are blue, teal, rust brown and biege.

RecoveringPerfectionist · 11/04/2015 16:43

I have a medium grey bag and it is great all year round and goes with everything. It looks really classy.

OnlyLovers · 11/04/2015 16:49

Yes, tan or neutral/taupe. Or a lime green would be nice with your clothes, particularly the navy.

Or a stripe or some kind of print? Adds a bit of interest while still being quite versatile, and you could go for quite bright or bold colours because they'd just be stripes rather than the whole bag. Or a black and white/grey and white stripe or print would be very versatile.

zipzap · 11/04/2015 17:33

I have a soft deep red leather bag that is years old and goes with everything - to the point that I've now got another bag in the same colour as it's so versatile.

TKMaxx have loads of nice bags at good prices.

The other one that I have that's fab especially in the summer is a pewter bag - from here - miatui.com/collections/grace
Mine is a couple of years old, if not 3 years old, and on my screen looks like it might be a bit lighter than the pewter shown, but not as light as the silver. And if you look at them on facebook and twitter they often run promotions for money off or extra small bags getting thrown in for free or a minimal extra price.

It's a great bag - really good size for carrying lots of stuff - and I liked it so much I have another one in dark brown which I use a bit in the winter, and a red one that's in the slightly smaller size (as I do have a tendency to overfill my bags!). They are really well thought out - the inside is bright so you can see things, there's a neoprene pocket for a bottle or umbrella, there's a couple of big pockets on the inside to organise yourself and also a phone pocket, pen pockets and an elastic thing to keep hold of keys securely. They also come with a small same coloured bag and a small see through bag that fit in the pockets or in the middle bit to help you be more organised (and as I have several bags I now have several of these smaller bags and use them for make up/emergency stuff/kids stuff/pens etc/snacks/etc which makes it really easy to transfer between bags too)

Carpaccio · 11/04/2015 19:44

Tan and purple IMO.
Black is nice too, but can be to boring and dark for the summer months.

MilkThistle187 · 11/04/2015 19:57

I always go for metallics as neutrals

FriendofBill · 11/04/2015 22:15

I was going to say silver.
My silver pumps went with everything!
Who knew! (Apart from milk thistle)
Grin

Wow! Thank you so much for all your responses. Think I'll have a look round the shops next weekend now I have more of an idea of what might work. Am thinking coral, red or metallic Smile
