M&S 'Bra Fitting Tool' - WTAF ?

On the M&S website is a 'Bra Fitting Tool'. I've no idea if it's a new thing, but filled it in anyway, out of curiousity.

(I wear Bravissimo Satine, 36G, fitted by Bravissimo, fits perfectly (IMHO)).

I fill in all the details, I tell it that no, the back isn't riding up, the cup isn't too small/big, the shoulder straps aren't too tight or too loose. In fact, a perfect fit.

It tells me I should be wearing 38F.

really? Its mad how each store/brand have their own measurements. Rigby and Pellar are lovely as they go down chest size and up cup size - the downside is they can be horrifically expensive.

StatisticallyChallenged · 10/04/2015 20:30

It's just M&S being shite as per usual. It tells everyone to go up a band and down a cup if you describe a perfect bra.

It's not each store having their own measurements, it;s shops refusing to accept that how we should fit bras has changed. You don't need to only buy a smaller band and bigger cup from Rigby and Peller.

CaptainAnkles · 10/04/2015 20:31

Is there a huge difference between a 36G and a 38F though?

DayLillie · 10/04/2015 20:45

I told it I was 30E, yes it fitted fine etc. Then it said I was 30E. I am not sure what the point of it is Confused.

TBH, I have never tried a M&S 30E, but gave up on their 32Ds years ago (when they finally started to produce them - always had Warner before that, and after). Maybe I will give it a go when I am very bored one day Hmm

StatisticallyChallenged · 10/04/2015 21:00

A 38F is one cup size smaller in volume terms. But wearing a band too big which they also recommend would severely reduce the support of the bra. A 36G is a relatively heavy breast (no offense OP, mine are a similar weight!) and not supporting them correctly can lead to back, neck and shoulder issues which can cause severe pain

clary · 10/04/2015 21:00

I agree with Statistically - I described a perfect bra - not digging in, band sits right etc - which is 30G - my revised size after losing weight (I was 32GG which was oddly easier to find in shops!) and M&S says I should wear a 32F! er no thanks, that'll be a band that doesn't support and cups not big enough for my boobs!

Bunbaker · 10/04/2015 21:08

I filled in all the bits to say that my current bra (32B) is a perfect fit and it suggested I buy a 34A. I used to wear a 34A, but thanks to statistically's great advice I now wear a 32B and look much better for it.

stripytees · 10/04/2015 21:44

I asked them about their bra fitting on Facebook recently and someone from M&S replied to say their bras are cut differently from Freya etc brands and that's why everyone is a different size at M&S than elsewhere. Seemed strange to me!

StatisticallyChallenged · 10/04/2015 22:01

There's always a little bit of variance between brands and between specific bras, but unless something drastic has changed then M&S haven't got some unique sizing template whereby you'd be a totally different size there to everywhere else. Why would you actively choose to have a garment which requires a fairly precise fit cut in a different way to everyone else in the industry? They wouldn't decide "oh, no, we've decided that having our adult shoes starting at a 4 is confusing. Our shoes will be numbered from 1. And I think we'll label our width fittings using roman numerals."

TBH, we've challenged M&S on their bra fitting service and advice numerous times and we get a different story every time.

hugoagogo · 10/04/2015 22:49

What the frick? I just did mine; said I wore a 32 G (FF) in a freya and it fits perfectly. What does it suggest?

A 34 F !!

gives up

marriednotdead · 10/04/2015 23:17

I put in my measurements for my 30G and got 32F.

I then added a hypothetical set of stats for someone I fitted who measured a 26 band- a Panache t shirt bra that comes up tight was the only firm fit.
M&S agreed it was a 28F so I clicked 'shop my size'.
Link takes me to bras that begin at a 32 back!

highkickindandy · 11/04/2015 00:53

exactly the same for me - told me my perfectly fitting non-digging-in-anywhere comfortable Panache 34G should be a 36F - I shall file that under ignore and stay with Panache

BrandyAlexander · 11/04/2015 07:01

I did this the other day! i am 27" under band. To be fair, the tool agreed I was 28E. i was quite excited till I clicked on shop my size.Hmm

hugoagogo · 11/04/2015 11:04

Giving m&s the benefit of the doubt and assuming their bras are just different. I used the tool again saying I was wearing a m&s 34 F and that the back rode up, the straps fell down and my boobs spilled over the top. What size does it suggest?
A 34 GG!
It makes no sense.
