Wedding outfit help needed please?

Hi, I'm going to my friends wedding in July and don't know what to wear.....I haven't been to a wedding in years.

We (DH and I, 3 kids, 11, 12 and 15) are invited to the evening reception.

I am 5'1, size 16, 34 E, hourglass figure, prefer a flared skirt thanks to c-section tummy! and can't do heels!

Is it okay to wear a dark colour dress? I've got a lovely dark purple lace dress similar to this that I bought at for Christmas but didn't get round to wearing.

And is DH okay in a casual shirt and trousers? He hates wearing a suit/tie, but will if I make him he has too!
DS (11) will wear smart trousers and a shirt with waistcoat, not sure about the girls yet.

I would be very grateful for any ideas, the kids are all tall, the younger two are in age 14 clothes, the eldest is 5'6, dress size 12-14. Thankyou :)

I'd say I'd you are just going to the evening shirt and trousers is fine for your dh, evening guests are generally dressed less formally.

Your first link does t work. I'm not that keen on the skater dress to be honest, I just feel (& I'm probably on my own with this) that it's a style for a younger person. I'm 33 and wouldn't wear it. Maybe if it was a bit longer it would be better?

I ordered the skater dress to see how it looks in real life and it is gorgeous! Comes to knee length on me so a much more appropriate length and the fit is great.
It is lined and has a net underskirt so is much more prom dress feel than skater dress. A lot of the dresses I have looked at are far too short, at 37 I want something knee length!
