Mother of the Bride size 18-20

I am helping a relative shop- but I am rubbish at it and so is she!

Mid budget, for hot (abroad, not beach) wedding in August. Conscious of showing upper arms, and legs- HELP!

Most department store brands we have looked at stop at a size 16, with some "well we could order an 18 but they come up small" type comments. Another relative just said well lose weight to get in a 16 then which wasn't well received (understandably so, I'm an 18 myself and can't shift weight easter eggs not helping ).

Anyway, does anyone have any bright ideas of where to look? Budget would go from mid to high if it has to she can't go naked!

Have you looked at Jacques Vert? They go to size 20, are dressy enough for mother of bride, have options to cover upper arms and are not too short. Debenhams sell some of their ranges as do other stores but for full range have a look on line or one of the Jacques Vert stores where staff are really helpful - there is one at Bluewater if that is your area.

Was going to suggest the same as previous poster, My 18-20 mum got her outfit from there. They have outlets in house of Fraser as well. They have last season stuff in Boundary Mills in Newcastle if you're up north?

look online, marisota, simply be, anna scholz. She has time to order and return. Might be worth a go? Does she hate all her legs or would she be happy to show calf and ankle?

Phase Eight goes up to an 18 and are very flattering for larger figures.

Debenhams will also have loads in an 18/20 - look at Betty Jackson, Jasper Conran, Principles.

And Monsoon go up to a 22.

Simply Be have some beautiful mother of the bride type outfits. Most of them are in the catalogue online, but there are some in the stores, if there's a store near you.

VacantExpression · 09/04/2015 13:31

Thank you all. Will head to Debenhams and Simply be for definite. Never knew that about Monsoon doing larger sizes either our local one only stock to a size 16 and never thought to ask about bigger sizes I assumed that's all they did!

Have a wee look in the John Lewis website for countless labels with some of them going up to size 24. In truth 18-20 is not plus size.

House of Frazer are also good.

Weebirdie · 09/04/2015 18:34

Sorry, just to add. I also like Gina Bacconi

tethersend · 09/04/2015 19:02

This in green is available in a 20, and could be styled for a wedding very easily.

What's her usual style?

PeachandBlack · 09/04/2015 19:35

I knew it would be that dress tethersend. I've been sitting on my hands to stop myself ordering it for months now.

Northernlurker · 10/04/2015 19:15

Boden go up to 22 as well

TurboTheChicken · 10/04/2015 19:28

I'm a size 18/20 and the last two weddings I've been to I've worn empire line Boden dresses. With the right accessories they can look good.
