What's your perfect 'nude' lipstick?

RL20 · 08/04/2015 18:57

I'm on the hunt for my perfect nude lipstick and haven't found it yet! I like lighter ones as darker browny shade lipsticks make me look a bit harsh and washed out.
If it helps, and you're familiar with foundation skin tones, I'm around an NC25/30 in MAC Studio Fix Fluid and am brunette. Thanks!

A nude that is too pale will totally wash you out and look like you have no lips at all. The secret to a good nude is less than half a shade darker than your natural lip color. Look at the skin color just inside your lower lip and match to that. I'm a fair skinned brunette and love ysl rouge volupte shine in color 9

RL20 · 09/04/2015 06:04

4forksake I also watched it! It was Dior with the matching machine thing. So I am tempted to give that a go. Thanks.

Butterflies yes Mac Myth was always a favourite but did wash me out slightly, and everything since then has been a bit too browny, or too pink!
Really trying to find the perfect inbetween one.

Thanks all for suggestions!

RL The girl at Boots told me they'd discontinued their whole nude range! Not 'on trend' any more. So am ekeing out the stubs of my old one till I find the perfect shade in another brand. Was so annoyed as I'd been wearing it for years and it was perfect for me. I can't wear reds they look too hard on me.

I did try a couple in Clinique that weren't bad but they're £17, not sure if I want to splash out that much yet.

That Dior thingy sounds great!

What does nc 30 mean

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 09/04/2015 09:49

You've got to get the right shade of deep colour to avoid the yellow teeth effect. Raspberry pinks look awful on me, as does anything orangey, but a deeper red sheer makes the teeth really white. I like Revlon lip butter in Red Velvet, as well as the more subdued Pink Truffle.

If you are going with nudes yes to a shade darker than natural lipcolour. I've been having a throwout from my lipstick box this morning and as well as a couple of sheer reds, those I have kept have all been close to my lip colour but different finishes, gloss, matt, sheer, slightly pearlised. Definitely trial and error though.

RL20 · 09/04/2015 10:01

ElizabethHoover I explain NC30 in my OP.

Hi WhoKnows, no I'm not looking for a bright shade, thanks anyway.

AWholeLottaNosy - that's strange! I don't see how any lip colour could go out of trend, it's so personal to an individual rather than a trend!
Will have a look at Clinique ones and see if they're worth the money.

I have a couple of fab "My lips but better" shades from the cheapie range #17.

They're the Mirror Shines in Belle and Beehive. Beehive is slightly paler but both are really neutral so one will suit you.

Actually that whole Mirror Shine range is the business. There's a squillion colours and cos they're a sheer lipstick they're the only brights/reds I can get away with as they'll never scare the horses. There's one called Scrumptious or something which is almost black in the tube but is a gorgeous subtle berry on.

MsVanRein · 09/04/2015 10:34

OP the newest Clinique lipsticks are gorgeous Lips Pops. They are exclusive to Boots at the minute.

Ive bought 4!

Bare Pop is a stunning my lips but better shade but you might like Nude Pop or even Beige Pop if you like something a little lighter.

Well worth a look they stay on so well and gorgeous true to colour shades.

RL20 · 09/04/2015 11:11

AnnaRose2014 thank you. I actually looked online at the Chanel Boy lipstick that a few people had mentioned on here, and one beauty blogger says that the 17 in Beehive is an alternative to it. So I'll check that out.

Thanks MsVanRein. Have just looked on the Boots website for those and I like the look of the 'Beige Pop'!

RL20 like you my fail safe was always Mac Myth, I totally agree that Nude seems to have shifted to more brown and mauve shades of late (I blame Kylie Jenner Wink) which is frustrating as they don't suit me!

I still wear Myth but almost always line it with Stripdown now.

A fabulous alternative that I wear everyday is Tom Ford Lipgloss in Naked. It's stays on forever and although I've never been much of a fan of lipgloss, Im surprised by how much I wear it, the gloss softens the nude shade for me.

Good luck and let us know if you find the perfect nude Smile can never have to many!

Lndnmummy · 09/04/2015 15:18

I cant wear classic nudes as they all wash me put and look too brown on me. Best for me is rose type colours, estee lauder has one called rebellious rose, it is lovely. Genereally most ones with rose in the name work for me. More on the red than brown side of nude. Makes teeth look whiter and brightens complexion.

NotYouNaanBread · 09/04/2015 15:27

Bobbi Brown - Tulle
NARS - Dolce Vita

RoyCroppersCricketBat · 09/04/2015 16:05

Bobbi Brown Blue Raspberry - it's the lipstick I've been waiting all my life for :)
Seriously, I wear it (50 year old with brown hair) and so does my 16 year old blond DD - Both love it.

RL20 · 09/04/2015 17:04

Thanks again all.

30andtired I agree. Browns don't suit me but a lot of them seem to be more browns now, or the dusky ones that I like are too 'glitzy' is that a word?! I like more matte, full colour ones.

Went into my local Boots today and didn't end up getting a lipstick as I needed a foundation more!
So I didn't bother looking at Dior or Chanel etc.
I checked out the 17 range but unfortunately they had about 3 actual lipsticks left and no tester of the 'Beehive' anyway!

I looked at the Clinique Lip Pops (as I bought my foundation from the Clinique counter) but unfortunately wasn't blown away by the colours for some reason. The nudes just weren't nude enough and still had too much pink in.

So for now I just got a cheap Barry M Loud Mouth in Tell Tale. For £3.99 it'll have to do for now!

I think I'll have to go back to MAC and stay in the safe zone!
It won't be for a few weeks at least though as I'm due on the 20th of this month! I don't fancy driving into the city centre just to go to Debenhams.

Do the no7 lipstick match, they found me colours I never thought I could wear

Shonajay · 10/04/2015 01:05

The rimmel chubby stick copies nude is fab, and also tantalising taupe by maybelline. But Mac patisserie is the best but wears off too fast. I've just bought up five of the rimmel ones on eBay.

Asia by Rimmel. Just enough colour to look like you're wearing some. I never wear anything else.

WhatWouldBlairWaldorfDo · 10/04/2015 10:20

Agree with pp i love 17 mirror shine in belle/beehive. Belle is my everyday lipstick and im on my 3rd one...

I also love rimmel moisture renew lipstick in notting hill nude (so much i ordered 4online as its never in stock) its a bit more brown but just perfect with my skin tone. One layer for general wear, two or three with lipliner for full kylie jenner mode :)
