Now this is the problem with going on holiday in the UK, I need to pack for a week in Cornwall but at this rate I'm going to need summer stuff / winter stuff and we weather gear! How on earth can I narrow down my packing?

Layers! I was in Cornwall last week and took the following:

Two knits - one navy, one grey (this one - totally brilliant: www.hm.com/gb/product/79483?article=79483-B#shopOrigin=SA)
Three plain grey long sleeved tops to go under the knits
One grey t-shirt
One grey marl sweatshirt
One pair dark skinny jeans
One pair distressed skinny jeans
One pair brown biker boots
My Seasalt Janelle coat
A lightweight waterproof coat from Target Dry
One navy scarf
Wellies!

I made full use of the washing machine in the cottage!

I have this problem every time we go to Cornwall (a lot). I end up taking everything as you can guarantee that even if you pack summer clothes in August it will be about 8 degrees and pee down with rain. Similarly I've been in early March and came home with a bit of a tan.

Sorry that's not helpful is it?! I do take stuff for every eventuality though - I'm rubbish at traveling light. It's the worst thing about going on holiday in the UK.

And I always wash clothes whilst I'm away too..

sweetheart · 09/04/2015 11:35

I'm not sure we have washing facilities....???

Frankie - were you in boots the whole time? I was contemplating taking some ballet flats?

Still quite cold down here once the sun has gone for the evening. Fine if you're indoors, I was out in town last night in skinnies, 2 layered vests, a thin cardi, a biker jacket and pumps, and I was freezing! Confused

Frankie's list above is pretty good. Its mostly similar to what I've worn on a daily basis in the last few weeks. Its definitely warm enough for longer skirts or dresses during the day, but anything else still needs tights and boots imo.

When it rains down here, it usually comes with a slight rise in temperature - annoying!

I'm a cold bod - the evenings will see me dressed in 5 layers of clothing with extra fleece socks and slippers, covered with a blanket!

Think I'll air on the side of caution when packing and stick to my winter wardrobe!
Thanks

You can always buy tees if you have sudden good weather Smile

I did wear boots most of the time although I forgot that I wore my leopard skater shoes to travel in.

I'm going to the coast this week. Weather forecast is between 8-18c Smile
I'm taking 5 short sleeve tops, 5 long sleeve tops, 2 pairs of jeans, 2 pairs of lightweight trousers, a couple of cardigans/jumpers, waterproof, boots, sandals, superga and a couple of scarves.

Think I'm prepared!

Frankie, I really like your list.

We got to Cornwall at Easter every year (I'm actually a bit bored with it, but that's probably a story for AIBU) and I don't think I've ever managed to put together quite such a well-co-ordinated selection. I might bookmark it for next year!

(This year I had 2xjeans, 2 hoodies and one other sweatshirt, a couple of short skirts + leggings, lots of t-shirts, waterproof jacket, denim jacket, walking boots and Converses. But I took too many different colours so they didn't all work together and some of that didn't get worn at all.)

Out of curiosity do you rent your cottages from a company beginning with JB?

binspin · 10/04/2015 10:19

We're on the coast in cornwall. It's been warm but windy so I'm rocking the summer dress with tights and boots look with a cardi for the evening.

frankietwospots · 11/04/2015 22:31

@daughterofliz - we rented one from Classic Cottages for the first time. Loved it and going back again in November.
